Important information about statins that I’m going to ask my doc about
Just a bit of information I discovered last week. One of the side effects of taking "simvistatin" is temporary memory loss. It is the only statin that has this effect. I am going to talk to my .doctor about stopping it, with his guidance of course. I have had some short lapses in memory .... forgetting part of my phone number, etc.

@fiesty76- Amazon sells it and there are other places too. My protein is pea protein from Plant fusion, vanilla creme. I'm fighting with losing 5 - 7 lbs.
Have you seen a nutritionist?
@thumperguy, @fiesty- What things have your tried to gain weight?
@thumperguy, About wt loss, my doc said much the same...eat balanced diet...yada yada. Your post got me thinking...how long has it been since any doc has seen me completely or even partially naked? I more resemble an emaciated survivor of WWII internment camps now. No wonder docs only want to see me fully dressed!!
No response to that required..vbg. And all this time I'd been thinking that the doc's time was so limited per patient that was the reason for no partial undress....having to rethink the whole issue...lol
I was able to stop the nausea which led to my weight loss by stopping Metformin and taking ginger products. Like you, I've also managed to regain a bit of weight but not nearly enough. Thanks for the Amazon source for Orgain, I'll place an order. I like both chocolate and shakes but haven't found either to smooth the rough edges like a small dose of the harder spirits can...mebbe a small beer,whiskey or wine as a chaser before bed??? smiles
Thanks @merpreb for the Amazon link for Orgain. I'll check Amazon for the pea protein, Plant Fusion as well. I drink veggie based protein smoothies and would be happy to add another variety to my weight gaining arsenal.
Merry, I routinely include high fat vegetable foods in my diet , e.g. avocado, olives, dark chocolate. Probably the chief reason I stay so thin is my avoidance of all cooking oils as they are implicated in damage to the epithelium lining of coronary arteries.
@merpreb, @thumperguy, I just looked up the Megestrol Acetate on these sites: WebMed, NIH, and Drugs.com. Looks like primarily used for HIV and cancer patients; care should be given for diabetic patients, elderly and those with renal problems; also may promote more respiratory infections....may be the reasons neither doc has prescribed it for me. Sigh.
@thumperguy- Even Olive oil?
In My Somewhat Informed Opinion (LOL). Olive oil is still an oil and as such it is pure fat. You can find other foodstuffs to equal it, but nothing in your fridge or pantry exceeds it for calorie-density. It's ascension to elite status in the nutritional world is perhaps related to it being part of the "Mediterranean" diet. That diet is healthful chiefly due to the heavy concentration of vegetables; healthful in spite of not due to olive oil. Indeed olive oil is not actually a food, but a concentrated food extract; it contains few vitamins and minerals and it won't by itself support life which disqualifies it as food. Finally, if one examines the diet recommendations of those physicians who have demonstrated a way of eating that will arrest, indeed reverse atherosclerotic heart disease they all seem urge (insist) their patients omit cooking oils from the diet. Don
that bedtime idea is a winner! i understand it's really good for the heart, digesiton, anxiety and marriages. the bit, only a bit at bedtime. you go, girl. blessings, elizabeth
