Old tricyclic antidepressant for nerve pain works well?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Jun 22, 2020

I came across pain doc Ian Carroll's you tube video, and I am going to ask my pain doc to prescribe Desiprimine. It is an old time tri cyclic antidepressant and Dr. Carroll says it is beats all other meds for nerve pain. It is not readily prescribed because it is cheap, with little incentive for Big Pharma to push it. It can be measured in blood plasma to make sure it is at a therapeutic dosage, and is well tolerated. Young docs may not even know of it. I am going to try to attach the you tube video I saw, and about 41 minutes into the video, you will hear about Disiprimine. Here goes. My computer skills are lacking. https://youtu.be/v8CP-rfqp0s Wow! I did it. Please listen to this Doctor. His intelligence is palpable. Lori Renee

@lorirenee1 I tried desipramine, just before I started taking Imipramine in September last year. I think the pain was a little better, but I needed to urinate urgently, more times a day, up to 24 times. That was a pre-existing condition but was under control with Oxybutinin. Needless to say, I stopped that one.

Oxy was the third from the end of the pain specialist's list of medications to try. Next came Imipramine, which did really help for a few months.

Lori, I like this Ian Carroll guy, he speaks in a straightforward understandable way. I only listened to the part you identified about desipramine. He does say it has some not great side effects but it also has a much higher chance of being effective against pain than duloxetine. That sounds very positive. Glad you found out about this and I hope you have good luck with it if you decide to get started on it. Meanwhile I am very hopeful the DRG stimulator is going to be a big help to you as well. Hank
