My family physician diagnosed me with IBS after I had diarrhea for about 3 weeks. He tested me for various other possible causes and could find none. Then he referred me to a physician’s assistant in gastroenterology. She agreed with him. I am lactose intolerant, but I always drink lactose free milk and take lactase pills when I eat cheese, yogurt, or ice cream. Nevertheless, she wanted me totally off dairy products. I have done that since early May. It made no difference, but I have kept that up since then. Recently I started using almond milk with cereal for breakfast. The other advice she gave me has really helped. Metamucil! I started with just a little in a glass of water and gradually have increased it to more than a heaping tablespoon. It has made a huge difference. I no longer run from my bed in the morning to the bathroom hoping that I will make it in time. I used to have this every morning with several urgent runs after that. My problem at present is trying to gain back the weight I lost ( about 5 pounds). For a thin person that’s a lot. I am trying to drink “plant based Ensure “. It is completely non-dairy, high protein, and tastes pretty good when cold.
I’m looking for meal ideas. Thanks for writing.

So before that 3 weeks, do u eat everything?
Maybe if you just wanna gain weight. Doesn't have to be from drinks. Just eat tasty pork, or cake if okay with you.
I love eggyolk.

I used to have digestive and heavy anxiety and nervous breakdown. Doctor thought I had ibs. Meditation by Dr Kim Wu, is a miracle for me. Bring me back. Dont know if works for ibs. I gain 11 kg from my lowest.

What gain me most is pork fat n butter.

Hai all 😊, I had mild diarrhea before, it's mild, but took like 7 days to really heal. now it has stop.

It's 12 day now. But I haven't try cheese. I took chiken, n try pork 2 days ago. Last night I felt the point of my appendix surgery 3 years ago a bit hurt. Does it cause by this diarrhea thingy or meat that I took?
Previous ly I did eat dairy. Cause of my diarrhea is stale drinks, over 12 hour

Does regular Bread is ok? Safe? Yoghurt?
Would my appendix stiches affected if ulcer expand or shrink?

Hi @sylviapat, I moved your message to this previous discussion that you started about introducing the right foods after diarrhea. I did this so people can follow your journey in one discussion.

The questions you ask about meat or diarrhea causing pain or feeling a 3 year old surgical site are good questions to ask your doctor.
You mention an ulcer. Do you have a stomach (peptic) ulcer?

Hi @sylviapat, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You might want to introduce food like oranges and papaya very slowly after a bout of diarrhea. Milk products, pork and veal and fruit should be avoided while you have diarrhea.

How long has it been since you had diarrhea? How long did it last? Do you know what caused you to have loose stool?

@sylviapat@sylviapat - Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I think that everyone has wondered about what to eat. One well-known diet that I find extremely helpful is called the BRAT Diet. ((Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast). https://www.webmd.com/children/brat-diet

I use this diet and it works well. Right now you want to calm your digestive system down. I use BRAT even when I'm "going" if I'm hungry. I hope that you are feeling better.
Are you running a fever or other symptoms?
