I, too, have cut down from two to one Metformin since my numbers stay in the prediabetic zone. This reminds me to discipline my eating for lower numbers and to remember to do some exercise or work each day. My strength has improved a little and my blood pressure is lower, so I have decreased one of those pills as well and feel much better without it. My doctor doesn't dictate so I don't expect any comments at all. He knows how independent I am and that I study constantly about nutrition and health. it was the Endocrinologist who increased my Metformin, and she has dismissed me, so I do what I think best. I have quit other blood pressure pills in the past because of the side effects and my doctor did not say anything. He told me in the beginning that Metformin did not do much, indicating I shouldn't put much faith in it, and he sent me to the nutritionist for instruction. That was a good decision for me. Dorisena
I feel about the same way using Metformin. Every side effect that they warn you of I feel.
I was only taking half and that was ok for awhile but now I can't tolerate it. My numbers got down into the prediabetic stage so I quit Metformin. I don't see the endocrinologist until July so I'm expecting a scolding. Leslee
I can not take genertic medication..i was taking the brand name gulcophage, 9 yrs with no problems...they stopped making it here in the USA..For the past yr i feel like i am being murdered with all the generic crap they have tried me on.

Leslee: Why wait? Call his/her office and ask the nurse what to do. They may offer suggestions that same day, or decide to move up your next visit sooner. They are not telepathic, and don’t know you’re having a problem unless you let them know!

I'm seeing my primary care Dr in 9 days and I was going to ask him about it. I feel like he can help me as much. The endocrinologist always seems in such a hurry. She said she could write me a prescription for a dietician but hasn't. I wasn't sure if she was waiting until I saw her again in late July. I've only seen her twice. I felt like she couldn't see me more. It's been a struggle to figure this all out. I have learned more from the forum.
I wasn't real happy about another problem with my liver. The endocrinologist had it checked and the numbers were much higher than the normal it should be. I tried to ask about it but she sorta just blew it off. I asked again the second appointment and she said I needed to talk to my primary care doctor. Ok I am and I'll also talk to him about the diabetes too and see if he'd write the prescription for the dietician.
I'm struggling with fatigue and my hair seems to be coming out. I'm not sure if those are liver problems. I wonder sometimes how I'm so patient!! Good thing I am or I'd scream.
Thanks. Leslee
So sorry your having these problems, I just dont know why we cant have better medication in this country. I WAS TAKING THE BRAND GLUCOPHSGE FOR YRS WITH NO PROBLEMS, THEY STOPPED MAKING IT. STRUGGLING FOR THE PAST YEAR, NOW I HAVE PROBLEMS WITHE VEINS IN MY LEGS.
I learned in college classes that the first line of defense against diabetes is diet, along with exercise to improve the body's good function. I wish we hadn't gotten the idea in the past that if you have a health problem, you take a pill to get well. So I can't help you with information about medications because I haven't experienced much about them, and learning about diet is the better place to achieve success in control. Since I like to cook and was responsible for feeding six people or more every day, it was easy for me to control the problem. I recommend getting help from a nutritionist and checking out the good information on the web. I thank God every day that I am not dealing with type I diabetes, which is a more serious health issue that usually requires insulin and or other medications to control, in addition to diet. You can share your eating habits and we can offer suggestions. But everyone is different, it seems. Dorisena
@jeannetta So sorry your having vein problems now . Bread changes into sugar in the body . Have you seen a Dr. about your veins? I think you should if you havent . It maybe something else ? Stay safe

Hey, friends,I spent last night in the hospital and was diagnosed with a
TIA because my right fingers froze and I couldn't move them. My right side of my face was tight for w thile. I had an MRI and they said no damage but they found an infection which I am treating. They said there was no cause for it, and it can happen any time at any age. My neck arteries and heart are good. My blood bredduse and blood sugar returned to normal. I am very tired, however.

Here's where you go: Orders from Headquarters, Office of Diversion Control.
