Hi, I first got post nasal mucous running into my throat after Eustachian tube dysfunctio. I also have rhinitis. I also take guaifenesin at night and I reiterate it's quite hard to identify the products with just guaifenesin. In the US I can get it in tablet form. You do need to take liquid with it and I take a drink before bed of orange or lemon juice, honey, hot water, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. It is good for colds too and stimulates mucous flow. I try to sleep sitting up a bit but find that hard. All the best!
@bride I will drink the solution you suggested . I did but never put cayenne pepper in my stomach wont accept hot stuff so will use a little and try it . I,ll try all suggestions to see what helps . I have guaifenesin so will do this tonight . Thanks
Maybe just omit the cayenne since it is very strong. The hot drink itself helps me. good luck!
@bride yes I think I will
I do @lioness !! You and I have a lot in common, I just saw a post by you about hotflashes at 76, and I am now 70 and miserable with them. I just bought a nebulizer, can't get here soon enough, but I've had my post nasal drip 24/7 for about 7 years.
It got better when I went on a low-carb diet (Keto) 2.5 years ago, but just thinned a little, still awful and gives me a sore throat if I don't keep doing sinus-irrigation.
Hoping you are still on the forum, Denise
wanted to add a couple "fixes" I've found can help @lioness and I do see this is a post from 2022 but I am hoping you are on the forum still 🙂
In the night, if my PND gets real bad, I take 1 tsp of baking soda in about 3/4 cup of water and take a few sips, which is usually about 10 sips. This seems to break up the mucus enough to allow me to fall back to sleep. I also am starting a nebulizer that is super easy and the doctor says to use Normal Saline, and it's real inexpensive (10 bucks) and hydrogen Peroxide (Food Grade) and the mixture he suggests is 4 to 1 meaning 4 Saline and 1 Hydrogen Peroxide. I am not suggesting anyone try this without letting your doctor know first. I have not tried it, but the nebulizer will be here I think Wednesday and I will report back on it.
The amount is very small, like less or close to 8th of a cup in the little nebulizer cup, and he said breath in the mist about 8-10 minutes. I also want to add that I looked it up and something like Himalayan Pink Salt, or Real Salt from Utah is good to use to make your own saline with no extra chemicals, natural Salts.
I have the same problem. With me its allergies. That may be your problem too, First thing is to use a different pillow. It might be a place to start. Good luck.
