I struggled with this after radiation for laryngeal cancer 3 years ago. My cancer has returned and I'm in the hospital right now after a Tracheostomy.. I have a tremendous amount of phlegm, but I'm sure that has a lot to do with my surgery. Before I came here, I had the same problem you have. Kept me up at night.

@msherfinski Im so sorry for your struggle with this phlegm Im going to have to talk with my Dr. and maybe a ENT I just dont know where it is all coming from I do have allergies and sinus act up every once in a while but this in the throat is worse . Wish you the best sorry the cancer has returned .

Hello, I had the same problem and it was because I could not swallow the mucus. I had a total Laryngectomy last year for cancer. I take plain liquid Tussin (Guaifenesin) everyday to keep it thin. Make sure it does not have additives like DM, or for flu and colds.
What also might help is to drink ginger ale or other colorless soda. The carbination seems to help. Ask medical staff or hospital speech Therapist. Paulette
