Trans Mental Health and Pronouns

Posted by Ayesha, Alumni Mentor @ayeshasharma, Apr 30, 2020

Hi everyone,

I have yet to share some resources on the importance of using the correct gender pronouns for loved ones in your life. So please see the thread below for some info on that 🙂

If anyone has information or insight to share, please chime in!

To start off, I just wanted to start by saying this thread is motivated by my recent experiences being a part of a Master of Public Health program at the Gillings School of Public Health (UNC). I have had professors this semester who have done such an amazing job of starting off semester introduction by asking for gender pronouns. This simple prompt helps to close the gap in accessibility for many trans students in a variety of different fields. Here are some more resources about why pronouns are important, and how to use different gender pronouns!

@ayeshasharma Thanks for sharing what you are learning. I was not aware of this pronoun dilemma. I appreciate the explanation.

It is so important for us to be sensitive to all people and to understand their needs to be recognized in a way that is comfortable to them and most importantly in a way that values their choices!
