Reoccurring sicknesses
Hello! I’m not sure I’m in the right place. I am a 40 year old female with no health conditions. (Other than depression) In December I got strep throat than I got strep throat again a couple weeks later. Within the same month I got the flu. This all happened in December and January. I had a fever in a March and another fever in April. I do have sinus issues. I’m just wandering why I’m getting sick so much. If I was about 80 years old maybe it would be more likely that I’d be this prone to illness but this is getting weird. No blood tests have been done. But I’ve had too many absences at my job and am now on short term disability. Who can hold a job when there sick every month or every other month? I have a speaking job so going to work while I’m coughing or have strep or fever wasn’t going to work. I tested negative for Covid 19. What can it be? I shouldn’t be getting sick this often.

I am 90 Yrs old. I walk 2 blocks a day in my upright walker (bad back) You will find my problems all over this form. But I do not eat processed foods and stay away from sugar or corn frutose or imitation sugar. Google honey with garlic, Bragg's apple cider vineger, Himalyan pink salt hydration, flaxseed oil, cooking with coconut oil, and eating nuts, berries, and milk in your oatmeal every morning. Get the autoimmune food and only 2 cups of coffee a day. Don't smoke. Quit everything but a glass of wine in the evening. Sleep 8-10 hour. Get the picture.? A lot of what I have said is anti-cancer and probotics. Come on-Solomon and Job lived to 140 yrs. old.. Food, exercise and sleep....and think positive. Bury the negative.
Hello @petitebeauty welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. We are happy you are here! Dealing with reoccurring symptoms, like fever and strep throat, is no fun. I’m glad you tested negative for COVID-19. You have come to the right place to find people with similar experiences and informative discussions.
I'm wondering about your cases of strep throat. Since it’s a bacterial infection, I think it might be a good idea to talk to your provider and see if this is all related. If not, maybe they can get to the bottom of it.
I found a few websites that are related and interesting:
- https://www.afcurgentcare.com/about/national-blog/2018/march/why-your-strep-throat-keeps-coming-back/

Are you logging your symptoms? Are you noticing any other symptoms that maybe you think are unrelated?
Hello petite beauty,
There are basically 2 ways to get strep. 1st is being in direct contact with a person who has it , and 2nd is touching
Something that has the active bacteria on it, like a phone, handles, etc.
Most bacteria infections are cleared up with antibiotics.
Do you have your tonsils?
There are some doctors who say a person has strep, when in fact it’s tonsillitis.
A good ear, nose and throat doctor has a lot of experience with those cases.
Could you be run down, immune system ?
Your fever could be related to the strep.
Hope you get answers.
@petitebeauty I tend to agree with @funcountess. I think your immune system can get run down and that leaves you open to new infections. I remember one winter when I was basically housebound for 6 - 8 weeks due to one thing after another.
I am not very experienced with strep but I do know that for some people it takes more than one round of antibiotics to get rid of it fully, and if it is not arrested it will recur.
Hopefully, as the weather improves and you are able to get out and get some fresh air you will feel better and be less apt to get infected with any of these conditions. In the meantime make sure to disinfect the surfaces in your home that could be harboring germs.
I hope this cycle ends soon for you. Please let us know how you are doing.

I tend to get strep easily when I was a child and even into my 30's. I was teased that I manufactured it. However it turned out that my teeth needed to be deep cleaned (the roots were harboring germs). Once I got my teeth deep cleaned I stopped getting strep.
However I also know another girl who said she kept getting mysterious illnesses. She never said what kind though. Turned out she had celiac. I am assuming her mysterious illnesses were digestive, but I don't know for sure.
