Visual Escapes and Daily Inspirations: Share Yours

Let's create a space to offer a daily reprieve.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty and fear into our lives. Some of that fear and uncertainty can be caused by over thinking what is going on or unnecessarily worrying. So, I'm making sure I wash my hands frequently, not touching my face, staying away from social gatherings and all of the recommended guidelines to help avoid getting or spreading COVID-19 but it can be a little boring. I try to not watch news all day long while I'm in this self imposed captivity. I like to take pictures of birds and other creatures from my window as a welcome break.

I invite you to join me in sharing pictures, favorite poems, sayings, mottos, funny moments. Let's take a daily break together.

Thanks for the bunting picture, @johnbishop. @user_ch32491d1 witnessing that eagle food fight must have taken your breath away. Did you have a camera already set up?

My office window overlooks my backyard. It's a small, urban yard with a large apricot tree. There are so many birds despite the city setting. I see cardinals, blue jays, juncos all the time practically nose to beak since my office is on the second floor. A pair of red tail hawks live in the neighborhood too and frequently swoop by. I have binoculars, but my camera is never at the ready. Instead I play citizen scientist and just started recording my sightings here: https://ebird.org/home I like the thought that something I enjoy advances science.

More bird pics tomorrow?

Well Colleen, you just made my day. I was looking through some old postings and stumbled across yours, here. Thanks for this recommendation. I love following the Cornell Lab of Ornithology Live Bird Cams. Many times I have my IPad set so I can watch the bird feeder birds while on another iPad I do something else. Right now the bird feeder has a Baltimore Oriole, grackle, and the wonderful sound of honking geese. Following the Savanna Hawks last year was at times agonizing but ultimately beautiful.

Here's the bird pic for what was tomorrow, yesterday. This is a picture of a wonderful little bird being brought back by Jay after crashing into a window and being stunned. As we have warmer weather, there are more birds. Yesterday.....the Red Tanagers showed up to add even more color to the Orioles. When we hear a bit of a crash, Jay finds the bird. If stunned, Jay will hold it until it revives. This one took 2 hours. I found him singing to this little guy as well as stroking his back. Guess the little guy liked Jay's singing because he finally started to move and actually ended up flying right out of Jay's hand.

Our biggest bird crash was a 22-pound turkey. The mark is still on the window. And when it rains......we get a bucket out for the leak. So our chipmunks join the bird ranks and that is quite a party. Hummingbirds are territorial and they attack the chipmunks. The chipmunks fight it out and move out of the way.......yesterday we had three of them.

What fun and a great way to enjoy some happiness.

Also Chris, I'm responding here to your neuropathy story. Your adventurous life sounds crazy fun and fulfilling. Knowing what you know now (about your body), I bet you would not have changed a thing. I'm sorry you are left with injuries as reminders of the fun times gone by. I suppose if we all just bubble wrapped ourselves maybe we'd be safer but oh how dull our lives would be...with no stories to tell. You impress me with your will to live, adapt and find good in each day. Jay is a lucky man....tell him I said so! 🤗
I'm thinking he already knows.
Be well
Rachel
