best cpap machine

Posted by lblazina @lblazina, Mar 11, 2020

Just heard from PCP saying my sleep study abnormal and suspected sleep apnea. He has referred me to a sleep specialist for a consult. What can I expect next and would like to hear from you about what cpap machine is preferred by those who use one. Thanks.

I have been on a ResMed BiPap machine, in several iterations, for at least ten years. The BiPap has higher pressure for inhaling, and lower pressure for exhaling, so you are not dealing with the high pressures constantly, which is the source of adjustment issues for new users. My understanding is that newer BiPaps are self titrating, adjusting pressure to bodily demand. My machine is a couple of years old, but the sleep specialist will set the pressure parameters based on your sleep study. My obstructive sleep apnea was severe, and the equipment gave me no problems of note. At worst, I had to get used to getting a full nights sleep. May it be so for you.

Thank you for the info. I will be going to sleep specialist for consult next and am looking at types of machines available. Hope I can find one that is comfortable for me. Best to you!

@lblazina - I have used the ResMed Air Sense 10 for the last 8 years or so and have been very happy with it. I'm sure there are several really good C-paps out there as well. For me the most important piece of equipement will be the mask you end up selecting. The stats are high for those to give up on C-pap therapy and I believe it's more about the comfort of the mask than the actual machine. It took me more than 6-8 masks before I settled on one that I liked.
Although a full face mask would be better for me I could not handle that. I've used nasal masks for over 20 years now along with a chin strap to help keep me from breathing with my mouth while sleeping. Happy Zzzz's! Jim@thankful

Just make up your mind that it will be a positive experience. It will be different for sure, but sleep is a wonderful benefit. Keep us posted.

I have had the same experience with ResMed AirSense 10, nasal mask with a chin strap to keep my mouth closed. Highly recommend this combination.
