Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@jakedduck1, Yowsa, Jake! I am afraid this is a bit too much for us. Neither of us knows how to dress a deer (or undress?) and I don't really care for the taste of venison. I suppose we could throw the body in our creek, but the smell would overwhelm us. The vultures are not here to help us. There was a dead deer in the creek once. I discovered this while walking our dog. Another time, a friend came over and as soon as she stepped out of her car, she said "What's that smell?" I told her it must be something dead in the creek but we had not investigated. Her imagination took off and she said "What if it's a body?" I said I just hope it is not and let it go. @joybringer1
@ess77, we have a lot of territory to cover and I am not sure we could cover all of it. Thanks for the tips and if we get mad enough, we may try one. Thanks for the blessing. I have a doctor appointment today, but I am not counting on much help. I know there is no cure for one of my problems (actually, probably all), but I am thankful my husband is driving today. I don't feel up to it. He is my greatest blessing! Best wishes, @joybringer1
@jude07 I use have a hugh garden flowers and vegie,I canned I always sprinkled Dried Blood around the flowers Nothing came near it animals don't like the smell try it
@ess77
I never did learn my different snakes but I know enough not to go out on the lawn with sandals or bare feet like my grandkids still do ( all young adults). ... and not to leave wet shoes outside like my son in law does.
I usually try to go out before 7 in this weather but I am still getting up an hour later because of the time change. Cooler weather coming this weekend.
I would be further North in Fl or somewhere between here and NY if I had a choice. I find the humidity exhausting and don’t understand how my family can play tennis in that weather. I attribute my aversion to age because we all use to lay on the beach oiled up back in the day. Now I hop from shady place to shady place and cross streets back and forth lol. Lord I hate to sweat!

@lioness
Good grief..Dried Blood? I am assuming you can buy this and don’t have any vampires for friends.

Thank you for the suggestions, I haven’t tried either, however I will look into both once the snow melts away once again.
Just enjoyed a cool however calm walk and the snow will give way to the smell of spring soon. Can’t hardly wait!
@imallets Yes yes you can buy it at the feed store or garden store No vampires here lol
@imallears Mary, Sounds like me! But, you may still have some ice in your veins????? It's really my body that rebels against temps...and humidity. But, in cold I can't breath well and my skin shrivels and dries like crazy and hair does exactly what I want! No curling or frizzing up.....but, same time, in humidity I use good lotion and lots of vaseline at night per dermatoloogist due to older/drier/neuropathy feet and legs and hands and arms and hair products truly help.
So, it's all about dealing, adjusting to life as it come. But, I love walking early a.m., just can't get up and out anymore due to this crazy body and joints, and sarcoid, etc.
Surrounded by all kinds of choices and delimas and decisions. And, do what I can, figure out a way to get it done! like walking the halls when I have Mayo appts....several days weekly at this point. What joy and a pleasant way to get in the walking.....with the wall of windows and the lovely property that used to be a heavily wooded ranch, still has so many trees and surrounded by wooded area and Mayo does such lovely groundskeeping/planting/maintaining, it's a treat. And, I have human beings around me, walking, talking, smiling I think ...blessings, elizabeth
@amandajro No walk yet! Unfortunately! Can only go very short distances since my dog has a painful nerve in his spine. Maybe when I go into town later, I could walk around there. See something new! All the streets and sidewalks are clear since the sun is out. Yea!
@fiesty76 What are hush puppies? I only know them as shoes from the Seventies.
