Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Posted by Becky, Volunteer Mentor @becsbuddy, Feb 19, 2020

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

I’m so proud of you I could bust. And I never said your buds were unsophisticated...just unadventurous. Well shiver me timbers.

I guess so but I don’t think I even said the word “unadventurous “...maybe implied. You are a hoot and who cares anyway right? You can’t force people to eat what you like ....just don’t disparage their choices. Not you Leonard because we love to verbally spar but sometimes people I have come across (not on this forum) are so insensitive when it comes to expressing themselves about anything...not just food. Well this is another whole topic and our AC guy is here for the yearly tuneup . Last year he said my unit could last a day, a week a month or a year....still going strong but we have window ACs and a generator in the event of hurricanes.

FL Mary...hot and humid here until the weekend and then warm and dry...up and down

No probably not. Most likely my warped interpretation. I must admit that your bizarre oops, I mean varied diet is indeed nutrient rich and you’d score high on a vitamin profile test.
Jake, enjoying my NORMAL blah diet but would enjoy it more if someone else cooked it.

@fiesty76. I had snake in a soup when I was very young. Tasted like chicken... lol. . It warmed you up in the cold winter. Try it, you may like it.

@mayofeb2020, Oh, my friend! Think I'll just take your word for the warming snake soup!!! Sooo glad Spring is starting to appear and won't be needing as much chili or other warming soups! LOL

@fiesty76 You're a hoot! A little nudge to try the round-up and a touch of rattlesnake. The only snake I've eaten, but it was delicious, fiesty. And, they are havested for our protection, so consuming them is appropriate, in my thinking. I'm close to not eating animals, but salmon and I love fried catfish.....southern thing and only fried I eat are catfish, okra, sweet potatoe fries. I bet the round-up is interesting....love your walking testimonies....blessings,my friend. elizabeth

@ess77, So here's the deal, Elizabeth, come on down and I'l tickle the ivories while you paint and then I'll serve you a fried catfish, okra, sweet potato fries dinner then we can watch a mystery on Netflix while some of that artery clogging grease we've just ingested melts away. How's about it????

@jude07

How about some hush puppies to go with that meal!!

@jude, Laughing because I don't "do" hush puppies but if you'll bring some, I'd love to welcome you along with @ess77 to my catfish dinner! Smiles

@imallears, your sparring with our @jakedduck1 is fun to read. You are both so witty and "quick on the uptake"!

After huge winds and a truly noteworthy dirt storm this past weekend, I am so glad I'd procrastinated on calling the ac guy to bring a new filter. Yesterday was a near perfect day but the temps made a radical jump back to winter last night so today I'll call the ac guy.

@artist01 Well, we ended up with 20”. Today, the sun is out and it looks beautiful! Our son, who lives in the “snow capital” of Colorado, got all of 4”. Will try for a walk today!
Photo of the snow and out street. Haven’t ventured out yet. But sun is out so it should be warm!

You mentioned 4 favorite things...fried catfish, sweet potato fries, mystery, Netflix. White wine mandatory. What’s your address?
Do I need boots?
