Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@becsbuddy @funcountess.. Spotify is a good app. All kinds of music from the oldies to hip hop. Yes, we Californian are lucky not to experience the chilly weather. Will not complain again if the weather dips to the 50s.
@mayofeb2020 How have you been ? I took some time of but back now Right we aren't in that snow anymore for me
@lioness. I'm ok. Still having problem with my hip bursitis and keg pain etc. Had my 2nd Moderna Saturday at Disneyland. On Saturday my arm was very sore, bp also high, no surprise there. On Sunday, I had low grade temperature under 100, bp still high. This morning I had a fright, my heart rate was out of control, went up to 130 just lying in bed. My daughter told me to use Kardia, and it showed possible Afib... That really scares me. Put a call to my cardiologist office. They finally called back, they are going to check what my loop recorder (an implant to check for irregular HR) says, and they will let my doctor know. Since then, my bp came back down. Hope this is just reaction to the vaccine. It's been just over a year since I have the loop recorder and never did it show anything wrong. Ugh.
Hope you are well. Have you got the vaccine yet? Take care.
@mayofeb2020 Glad you are o.k. Yes I got the Pfizer and on 22 will get my 2nd one I hope you will be alright maybe it's just a reaction to the 2nf dose.Im going to reach out to my cardiologist I had a triple ny pass in 1996 and just recently walking up a small grade I started with s.o.b. Of course 2mask so hoping that was it. I was considering getting a Kardia how do you like yours and where did you get it? Glad I'm in CA with east weather
@artist101 lots of big, juicy mosquitos where I live too! You’d think these cold temperatures would kill them off, but they are hardy beasts! My husband always says when there are no humans or animals left on earth, ther will still be insects🤪
Your husband is 100% correct
@funcountess Yesterday I went down to the fairgrounds in next county south, for my 2nd vaccine shot. Three weeks ago it was snowing and sleety rain, and we had to stand outside waiting to get into the fair building. They used 3 different ones [paperwork, actual shot, waiting time] Usually, my cane stays in the car, but really glad I had it along. I put on lug soled hiking boots for added traction. And canvas pants. Yesterday, once again it was cold rain, and I dressed the same. For those who were pushing me along between buildings, it was a simple "if you want to walk around me, go for it! I'm watching the footing, and not slipping" Good to see the staff were watching everyone to make sure there were no accidents!
Ginger
Haha @migizli, especially mosquitoes!
There are no mosquitos in MN., just a little “frigid” however no fear, tomorrow it may be a heat wave with a high of 9 degrees, yes, yes, yes!!
@gingerw. All of you who brave the elements to get the vaccine have my utmost admiration. I had mine in Disneyland! Imagine that, the happiest place on earth... A whole different meaning. My son was able to get one of the many wheelchairs for me as it is quite a walk. There was a medical tent where I have to go because I'm on blood thinner in case I have any questions. Even though it was no where as cold as the Midwest, there were several heat lamps for those who don't want to sit in the tents after vaccination. I can't imagine doing all that in the rain and snow.
