Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@imallers Here in Long Beach I'm o.k. just the smoke and ash from up north It sure is devastating Prayers and your rain will help
I'm a walking delinquent this week! I am doing Grandma daycare, if I am lucky I arrive during the boys' limited screen time, grab their doggie and we take a swift 15 minute walk in the now-chilly air. Then I return and wrangle 2 boys for 6-8 hours - any "walks" with them are at toddler exploring pace, which is fine. When they play in the backyard or playroom, I do my therapy, floor exercises, and we play chase, jump, etc. When I get home at 4, I am POOPED, so no evening walks, either! Today is my day off, so I'm headed out for a nice walk now that chores are done. I'll have to make up for it this weekend.

How great to be with the grandchildren! I am sure you are more than pooped when you arrive home, however you will not have any regrets and they will remember this time with you forever. It sounds like you are maximizing the jumping jacks etc and getting your body moving. Good for you.
On Monday, I completed a 5K with my daughter, who is in Florida, while I did mine in Minnesota. It was her 40th birthday and she did this through the Mn Vikings and their cause. It was great knowing that we were doing our best, even virtually. I walked the last two days in the cold rain, not real enjoyable however I needed out of the house. Today I drove to a small town and walked their park pathway, stopping at the skateboard runs and ran up and down them 10xs before I moved on. LOL
We all just need to move! Have a great evening and stay safe.
Well crumb, @funcountess! As much as I dislike really cold weather, at least with it one can layer up. With extreme heat and no ac, there is little one can do. Hope you have restored service now! Would send you some of our sudden cool if only I could pkg it!!
A companion 5K - that's so cool! NO longer a runner with 5 hip implant surgeries and arthritis, but I keep moving! Already did a short walk this AM - now off to wrangle my little guys

@lioness
I don't know if I got kicked out of these email groups But I do not get the email threads anymore. I went back into my trash to write this message.
I'll keep the garlic enema in my notes, it might come in use one day.
No walking this week. My knees hurt, click and throb so bad I want to scream! I think I need a chair exercise routine that will work out my whole body.
sorry your in pain!
