Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@mayofeb2020 If there was a quake around me I wouldn't hear it unless daytime I sleep soundly Yep fire season now glad your o.k.
@funcountess. Yes, fire season is here. It's always a worry in Southern California, especially now. I'm glad you did not suffer any damage with the earthquake. Hope they get the Azusa fire under control soon. The Angeles National Forest is very dry now.
@lioness It was a stupid fall - I was climbing on something inappropriate and went backward onto the floor. The main things hurt were my pride and my posterior - I was careful not to fall on my newly repaired thumb! After that I went and got out the step stool with the proper hand-hold rail to finish the chore of putting up freshly washed curtains.
I got my walk in early today - a little over 3 miles in and hour and 5 minutes, then got the pond deep-cleaned (a Friday task), got showered, had a Zoom meeting and did a little weeding. Now I'm ready for lunch and my book for an hour before I fold yesterday's laundry.
Went exploring in the garden and found enough cucumbers to make a pot of potato-cucumber soup for supper - will serve it with grilled cheese & fresh tomato sandwiches. I love garden dinners.
Sue
Sue,
You just solved the what to have for dinner tonight. Grilled cheese and fresh tomatoes sandwich. Sounds good.
I may slice some black olives, and put on top of tomatoes.
@lilypaws, Not sure what you were referring to but @lioness and @jakedduck1 are good buddies and just have some fun ribbing each other from time to time. All in good fun and we need the smiles.
@mayofeb, Your "shake and bake" humor brings a smile! Glad your daughter was safe from the LA earthquake but can imagine the scare of being awakened by it and also the after effects. We were in Anchorage years ago staying in a beautiful hotel when a nearby earthquake struck. The weirdest experience watching a small table and armless chair go scooting across the carpet. One of the faster scrambles of our lives getting down several flights of stairs to the ground floor.
@sueinmn Glad your o.k. Months ago I fell on my posterior also and it took till now to be able to sit comfortably.I never heard of that soup could you share the recipie I love both . Yes love veggies from garden Im having tomato soup from the garden tomatoes from a friend .
@fiesty76 I was living in Van Nuys Ca at that time and watched as my pictures on wall went crooked and a little rocking and rolling thats how hard of a quake it was Glad you where o.k.
@fiesty76 I'm sorry. I guess I took it all wrong. Who knows that they are good friends. I just thought it wasn't funny.
@funcountess Now this was interesting to know, even though it wasn't medical. I was in one quake when we lived in Seattle.
