Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@jakedduck1 When at night in bed I can see shadows but o.k..during the day . Between Pa and here Ive been in all disaters . In 64 I lived in Van Nuys for a year and felt the big one in Alaska remember it?
@lioness
Yes I remember the Alaska quake 7.5. Do you remember the 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 and the 6.7 earthquake in Coalinga in 1983? The Loma Prieta quake did minor damage it cracked a wall and some plaster fell out of an archway in my dining room.

Time for my walk I guess I’m going to try to walk for an hour but I don’t know how successful I’ll be
Jake
@jakedduck1 Good for you have appointment so will walk at appointment did some here But need to do chair exercises when I come home
@lioness. I'm doing fine, all things considered. I told my friends everyday is like ground hog day. Still going for my walks everyday, 40 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the late afternoon. By that time, my leg and back are begging for a time out. I need a good massage and some physical therapy. Been going to TJ once every three weeks, there are stuff I can't get everywhere. I'm still getting my veggies box delivered every other Sunday. The veggies are picked the same morning and it's amazing how great they are. They really taste how vegetables are supposed to taste. I had some wonderful tomatoes, my son brought me some bacon so I can have a BLT sandwich!! That's why I'm so envious of those of you who have gardens and can grow all kinds of fruits and vegetables! Take care everyone.
@jakedduck1 Hi Leonard, I’m glad to see that you’re still walking! I’ve been hearing about all the positive. Things you for the epilepsy group. Way to go! Just keep walking!
@becsbuddy
Even though I walk crooked I keep plugging along. I don’t like to walk in fact I used to drive across the street from where I swam to buy my ice cream. I was having quite a few balance problems today so my anticipated hour walk was only 30 minutes.
Jake
@jakedduck1 Well I went to ear Dr turns out I have TMJ what next but I'm grateful for not having other problems that so many others do
@lioness, Eh?? is moxie me? Not sure that is a fit but brought a smile. Hope you eye doc appt and ENT went well? What did you find out?
@lioness, Linda, dry eye can be uncomfortable so I can relate. However, also while irritating to say the least, glad your eye news was not more serious. My last eye appt. with new guy who I will never see again because he didn't even look in my eyes! just brushed off my constant eye streaming as "dry eye"...whot? and told me to buy some otc drops like Refresh..hmmmm I see a new eye doc in my future!
