Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@jakedduck1 I"m on my way!
Hi, @imallears, Thank you for the Romaine grilling tip! I love Romaine and can't wait to try preparing some this way with my next grocery delivery. Yummie & Delicious..of course, the crunchy raw is superb as well.
Hi, @imallears, Thank you so much for this Romaine grilling tip. Can't wait to try this. Of course, raw and crunchy is good too. Smiles...replied earlier but think I forgot to hit "reply"...oh, the advantages of being a bit spacey and older...lol
@@becsbuddy, So glad we are continuing our virtual walks together! Great lyric from Sound of Music for us all. It also triggered a memory I’ll pass on to my daughter.
Several yrs ago, she and a close friend climbed Mt. Kilamanjaro. I was a nervous wreck, worried sick about altitude sickness and sent her off with a backpack filled with otc meds. Vbg. She and friend made it to the top and she’s run triatholons since. She and this friend in high school have remained close and made an annual celebration of watching Sound of Music for years! They’ll be 50 this year and live in diff. states. Will have to ask if they are still watching the movie each X-mas holiday. Thanks for keeping our walkercizers going!
Here’s some motivation for today!
Here was the venue for my morning walk - Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis, really roaring after the weekend rain. Walked 3.5 miles with my friend, including 30 flights of stairs. We'll see how my glutes feel tomorrow!
We were impressed how many wore masks or had them ready in case they came close to anyone else. Saw a group of young men holding a work meeting in the picnic shelter - each at their own table. Very encouraging that some are still being cautious.
Came home and planted the first of many patio pots, the rest will have to wait for potting soil...seeing if the local garden center has any for curbside pickup in the morning. Writing this on the patio, alongside our almost-ready-for-summer pond, just need to get the fountain in and connected. So grateful for the nice weather and peaceful backyard.

I took a different area to walk in . First I watered the plants outside then walked around our building here a different way I love the picture of the falls you posted . Got some sun since it is so beautiful today . Visited with a friend outside so got a lot of fresh air so enjoyable .
Ohh, how lovely! Thank you for sharing. Waterfalls are hypnotizing for me!
@sueimnm Wow another beautiful photo. I am definitely not the only one with lovely places to walk. Talking about masks on the walk, the only ones that are wearing masks on my walk are obviously visitors who are supposed to be on a 14 day lock down. It is pretty safe for walking around here but I wonder where else they are going and the police are not being vigilant enough. We only have half a dozen or so active cases on this island and Kauai hasn't had any for weeks. The governor is trying to keep it that way for a while but obviously it will have to be opened up again at some point. When people arrive they have to sign a document saying they will stay in their room and then they ignore the rule. If caught they may be fined $5,000 and also a year in jail.
My walk was good though and I went a bit earlier to keep it a bit cooler. I hope your buttocks aen't too bad tomorrow and the next day! I am now going to do my stretches before I coll down.
@sueinmn
I'm moving! My place is starting to look so boring even though I can see the water.
Wish I was there instead of here in hot Florida
Ugh ....Mary
