Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Posted by Becky, Volunteer Mentor @becsbuddy, Feb 19, 2020

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Your art work is beautiful, is it on card stock. What did you color, with? No tombows yet?
How long did it take to make?
You must have lots of patience.
Do you frame your art work?
Way to pretty to just put away.

Hi,
Grilled for about 5 minutes or so....whole head rubbed with olive oil...you can season or not...done when it’s slightly charred and wilted. Really good on a fire grill but you can do it on an indoor electric grill like I do ...sometimes takes a little longer...or a grill pan on your stove. Just make sure the romaine is dry enough after you wash it. I would season it to compliment whatever you are eating....like steak seasoning if you are having steak...maybe a spritz of lemon .

@imallers. I never had Romaine like this do you eat it then by self or in salad? I use to like Blue cheese dressing on a wedge of lettuce but gave up iceberg lettuce

Well, I’m slowly getting to Denver. 11miles so far! Course sleeping is a problem. 😩. Let’s walk, walk, walk!

Just did 3 more miles toward Amana - while chatting on the phone with one of my winter walking buddies who needed cheering up. Tomorrow I'm doing a meet-up with another buddy to walk in a newly reopened regional park - and maybe get a coffee (outdoors) afterwards. I'm so excited!
Now back to my sewing cave to work on a quilt.

@imallears Thanks for the tip. I have never done that. Maybe we need a cooking page and you can run it.

You should feel accomplished with cheering up a friend, 3 miles and motivation left to sew on your quilt! Hip hip hurray for you!! That's motivation for me to at least get walking, thanks!

Hi
We have a whole section under Healthy Living devoted to recipes. I think @jakeduck1 kicked it off when he was looking for easy dishes to make.
