Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

I was to Maui years ago, those temps were heavenly! Comfort with that alone.
I did get a balmy 45 degree walk in, now for some hot tea.
I can’t think of any place I’d rather quarantine!
@pollyann. How about a rain check?
@pollyanne
I’m in, meals included? I’ll buy the food if YOU fix it
Jake
You buy the food. My husband fixes it. How about that? Good deal for me!
@becsbuddy
If it’s a gourmet meal you’re after you better walk on past my house. I’m sure nobody would want to eat the slop I concoct. If you guys want me in the kitchen cooking you’re going to have to drag me in there kicking and screaming every inch of the way and you better bring a stomach pump with you. Although if you’re accustomed to lousy tasting burnt food then your more than welcome.
By the way someone asked where I live. I’m a native Central Californian.
Jake
@pollyanne I would be there in a NY minute. We loved Maui and Kauai. I enjoyed the beach more at our VRBO on Maui, it was very walkable sand and very uncrowded. Only the people who were in condos along the beach seemed to use it.

Good morning, all! I have another idea for our walking! Since we really can’t go to Hawaii (I can’t swim), how about if we pick a city near us and set out to walk toward it? I’ll pick Denver. It has a nice downtown and my son lives there! Plus, the DOT built a bike path between here and there. It maybe 40 miles. Think I can do it? I’ll try!
@becsbuddy you do mean to “virtually” walk to Denver, right? When I ride my exercise bike I always try to figure out where I would be if was really biking. I assume somewhere within the next town.
JK
Okay, I'm headed for a favorite spring haunt - Amana Iowa. Let's see how long it takes me to walk the 280 miles
