Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Such a beautiful day for a walk! But first I need to have a television with the endocrinologist, then it’s outside!! I’m just so glad that people are social distancing well, it makes going out easier. Think I’ll try @colleenyoung ’s idea of sprinting every ten minutes or so. @jakedduck1 we don’t have your type of telephone poles here, so I’ll have to really work. And no cookies!

I think I will try to get a walk in. It rained all day yesterday. It will rain again later in the afternoon. I'm getting water-logged.

Does anyone else have a good report as to there walking program that Becky started . My morning is usually tied up on connect emails and then in afternoon I do my walking when its not raining as it has been the last several day . Today being Good Friday I will do my walking outside then my chair exercises before supper . I will go online then for the service tonight . People just because you have things to do ,dont forget to walk so important for our body .

I managed to walk twice around the block this morning listening to All Out 70s on Spotify. By the time I got done, my legs are singing the blues. I have to bribe them with a nice piece of dark chocolate and a cup of coffee at lunch.

@lioness You're doing a great job exercising and keeping the rest of us moving! Good job! I took the dog out to the park so he could run around and sniff and then took him home. I wanted to go out for a good walk because snow is on its way! It was beautiful, warm and sunny yesterday. Think I did 2 miles today.

@becsbuddy Thanks will go out after while . Here in Calif the Gov closed the parks and beach so those who did go there cant now and hopefully find walking elsewhere . I have the building to walk either the halls. or outside . Its sunny here today no rain so will go outside

@mayofeb2020 Yep same here but I can walk the halls here so this is what Ive done or you can walk in place put a marching song on lol

I posted this the other day but I’m posting again. It’s a pretty good video based on walking but less boring. I like the timer up in the corner letting you know how many more seconds to each exercise.
I tried a more typical video class on my health club’s website. There’s some dropping down and going back up to a stand (similar to a burpee) but with my two fake knees I can’t do that quickly enough. I’ve also done a cardio video on the website.

Thanks, I will check out this video. With the snow coming and it being so nice outside I walked nearly four miles today. The low temps all week are not encouraging.

I am grateful that I can walk to relieve some of the stress during this difficult time. I tried my first time at Zumba on Utube, beyond me for sure. I could hear my floor laughing histerically. LOL
