TOES AND HEELS PLUS ATROPHY OF CALF

Posted by peggyn @peggyn, Jan 22, 2020

Hello, I'm new to this group and I'm looking for some help. I cannot stand on the toes on my left foot. When I walk I have a very bad limp. Maybe it's because I cannot push off with the toes, front of foot,. I cannot lift that heel up either. I can if I'm using both feet, just not alone. Also the calf on that leg has atrophy .Sometimes I feel like the muscle is kicking in and getting better, but then it seems to fade.
I also need a total THR on the left hip. I mostly want to help the limp get better. Do any of you have this? Do you think hip replacement could help the limp ??

I have a lot of back problems also, spondyscthelsis sp and spinal stenosis. I really don't want surgery for this, but would like the hip surgery.
Has anyone had all of this going on??

Hello @peggyn. Have you discussed all of these symptoms with your medical provider? Is there any concern that your spinal issues are causing issues with your nerves that are resulting in your intermittent leg weakness?

@peggyn, is your limp a result from a painful hip or perhaps your back issues causing muscle weakness?

I sometimes feel a sharp pain like needles in my spinal cord to the waist area. It doesn’t happen often but sometimes it happens when I sit or stand. Sometimes I feel a cold dull pains around my groin and around my jaw area to the ears and I have abdominal pains. I would like to have a knowledge about what’s wrong with me.

I definitely have weak muscles. My left leg that I will have hip surgery is atrophy. A lot smaller in the calf than the right leg. If I can stand up completely straight and take a few steps very slow I can do it without a limp, but I cannot hole it.

I had the spinal stenosis and had a laminectomy. I'm very happy that I did.

Careful about any joint replacement surgery. My orthosurgeon damaged peroneal nerve and calf is numb and drop foot. Must wear a brace. Had nerve transfer surgery 1 year ago but so far no real changes though neurosurgeon is hopeful.
