Looking for anxiety med that not contribute to dementia or bone loss
I am 67 years old. I have Osteoporosis, and, mild but frightening episodes of brain fog. For years, I have been happily controlling my anxiety/depression with only a small dose of Lexapro (along with self help practices). Since I learned that Lexapro and other SSRI's can contribute to my 2 main health issues, I have tried to a few times to stop taking it, but always start again because I hate feeling sad and anxious. Having watched osteoporosis destroy my mother's health, and Alzheimers destroy my father's health, I don't want to risk taking these drugs any longer. But it seems that every medication has these or other side effects. What to do?

I’m not aware that Lexapro has an effect on memory. Benzos, yes, but not Lexapro.
oh my goodness! sorry to hear that you are dealing w/ those issues. I have been dealing w/ anxiety since i was a child and its hard to deal with it. I have tried celexa and prozac and neither made me feel better to satisfaction. Now the celexa i felt better after a couple of weeks, however I suffer from migraines as well and i felt that the celexa may have been contributing to those so I weaned myself off. Meanwhile still dealing w/ the anxiety. I just recently tried the CBD spray unknown if it works yet because i just started today. I also have a treadmill at home and getting on about 30 mins a day at least 4 times a week seems to help with my mood, which lessens some of the anxiety. I hope you feel better eventually soon.
I stopped taking Lexapro, which controlled my anxiety, because I am a senior with osteoporosis and a family history of Alzheimers. I am looking for an anxiety medication that is not associated with bone loss or dementia.

Have you talked to your doctor about stopping the Lexapro and if there are better alternatives for you?
