Has anyone been treated with Panitumumab for cancer?

Posted by mscoyote @mscoyote, Oct 24, 2019

I am getting the side-effects of acne and am excited that panitumumab may be working, but how effective is it? Chemo has stopped working on me and I don't know what this drug can do.

@mscoyote and @becsbuddy I'm not able to find any information on a specific diet when on panitumumab. I did find some self care tips on the following site that mentioned good nutrition and limit alcohol plus a few other things.

Thanks, johnbishop. I found the article interesting, but I guess my fear is that some antioxidants, vitamins, etc. or else large amounts of them may block the receptors on cancer cells and restrict the admission of the cancer drug into the cell (as has been suggested by some of my health care team). Then again, other reputable sites such as the mayo grocery bag site recommended above seem to indicate that antioxidants are very effective in preventing cancer growth. My assumption was that it depends on the drug, but there doesn't seem to be much information about panitumumab, so I'm not sure whether to curb my intake of antioxidants and vitamin C and green tea etc. or indulge.

Hi @mscoyote I’d be interested in hearing what you learned from the pharmacist. What did they tell you about possible interactions with antioxidants, vitamin C, green tea etc. Or did they say that some foods or supplement could support the therapy? Have you also considered consulting a nutritionist who specialized in oncology?

hi @coleenyoung, One pharmacist told me he couldn't find much about any foods or supplements interacting with the drug but advised me to still refrain from high doses of antioxidants in food and teas. I never heard back from the hospital pharmacy, but will try again. The oncology nutritionists I found on online didn't have anything about panitumumab. Still looking.

Hi @mscoyote,

I’m tagging @lah @brenz @rayleemorris and @davy80 who has written about Vectibix (panitumumab) in this discussion:
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/vectibix/

Of course, here’s information from Mayo Clinic https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/panitumumab-intravenous-route/precautions/drg-20069235 and I’d sincerely encourage you to go through these pages published by EMA - European Medicines Agency; it has a wealth of information about Panitumumab

thanks so much for the EMA info. I can't understand all of it, but what I did understand was very interesting and it does seem that we don't have to worry about reactions with food, at least as far as they know at this time. Fingers crossed.
