Supplement combination/effectiveness
Ergomax brand PEA was working so well after 9 weeks of 1200 mg. Per day, thought I was 'cured'. Pain and burning was rare and brief! Then...it comes back. Who would one go to in order to find out if supplements are cancelling each other, overkill in combination taken etc.? I take alpha lipoic acid in the R-ala form, acetyl L carnitine, turmeric and B12. Continuing with PEA since I stocked up! Medical doctors? doubt it, health food stores? Probably sell you more stuff! How do you find a chemist or biologist perhaps? Thanks for any advice.

Great question! One that rolls through my mind often. I recently called a local health and wellness Dr who specializes in holistic medicines. I knew his family and someone who went to him. Quite knowledgeable however, insurance won't cover him and he charges $350 for initial visit, $250 for 2nd then $85 for maintenance visits. My Neuro mentioned a Chinese Eastern Medicine Dr, same scenario. Can't afford. So, that leaves me to the internet and you folks to obtain my knowledge.
Funny, I'm independently following a supplement protocol that John Bishop recommended. My Neuro only recommended 3 out of the multiple supplements in the protocol and basically won't endorse beyond what medical conclusions or proof is out there. It's really frustrating when all we are trying to do is help ourselves, slow progression, find some relief.
By the way, your PEA info was helpful to me. I read the goal is to take oral and topical cream. Are you using both?
@wisfloj - Sometimes your local pharmacist can be a valuable resouce since they are knowledgeable on drug/supplement interaction. Might be interesting to ask a few different ones the same question.
There is also a drug interaction checker through WebMD that includes supplements.
We must be self sufficient at the end of the day!
I use the side effects and interaction checker through WebMD but sometimes like a real person to verify what I've read ☺ ...but that's just me when my glass is half full.
Totally agree.
Oral only, 400 mg capsules with each meal, took longer than typically predicted but I felt it really helped, now 'somewhat,
Great ideas! Thanks so much
Ok. Good to know.
Thanks!
