Heart rate increases after eating
My son has been sick about 8 months.
Dr’s have no idea.
He has extreme gas pain in stomach, feels like going to have heart attack. Heart rate and be go way up.
Cannot burp pass gas etc.
finally dr said he has POTS. . Lot of symptoms match but not all. Had a heirnal hernia fixed last month. Last week they loosened wrap to burp. Then he got 7 hours hiccups right after surgery. Took dr several hours for something to release hiccups. Nothing worked. Will get hiccups after eating.eating .
Also after eating heart rate increases a lot. Dr’s “ no idea”.
Anyone here heard of anything close to problems?
Appreciate any help.
Thank you

Hello @mom123mcq and welcome to Mayo Connect!
I am sorry to hear about your son's problems with eating. This certainly sounds uncomfortable as well as stressful.
In order to help understand your son's problems, please share a bit more information as you are comfortable doing so.
For example: Does your son eat regular size or large meals? (He may try eating several small meals rather than three regular or large meals.)
What are your son's age and weight?
You mention that his heart rate goes up after eating, how high is the heart rate at that time?
Has he had blood pressure and/or heart problems in the past?
As he had surgery a month ago, has he had a follow-up with the surgeon yet so that he can mention these symptoms to his doctor?
Eats small amounts of food every so often no large meals
41. Yrs. about 140 dropped 70 lbs in 8 months abouted mountain
It goes as high as 130 after eating and sitting down doing nothing
No no problems actually never been sick except colds from kids
He did have a tic bite. Dr gave him antibiotics. About 4-5 months ago said virus was gone
Spott
He has followed up with surgeons and drs
Has has extensive blood tests and x rays of all types and everyone says all body parts are good
Think we should go to infectious disease dr? Running out of dr’s. Thank you
Another opinion might be a good idea, @mom123mcq if he is still suffering so much. An infectious disease doc might be a good choice as he had a tic bite. Also, a consult with an endocrinologist might be helpful.
At the very least, it would be good if he could be seen at a multidisciplinary medical center, like a university medical school or a Mayo facility. Does he live near either one?
I recognize some of these symptoms from my experience with MALS- this means median actuate ligament syndrome. A ligament that is attached to the diaphragm presses on the celiac artery with eating. The artery is supposed to bring blood to intestines for digestion, but since it is compressed by the ligament not enough blood goes through and you get extreme stomach pain. Weight loss is common. I remember in the early days of this illness that I had very high heart rate at rest- nobody knew why.
Does your son have a gastroenterologist? Surgeon might know about it, but it is rare. We have a group here on Connect sharing experiences and information.
Will let him know and probably do so
Thank you very much
@mom123mcq,
Here is the thread to the discussion that was mentioned by @astaingegerdm, about MALS. This is a rare disorder and often doctors fail to diagnose it. You may need to seek out a specialist in the area of MALS.

When you or your son have an opportunity to read these posts about MALS, will you let me know if you relate to these symptoms?
@mom123mcq am I understanding correctly that he has been diagnosed with dysautonomia? POTS? Has anyone mentioned Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome?? Seems like we are seeing more of the two diagnosis lately.
I told him to look it up. Never heard of either
Thank you very much
Hi all, I have suffered with POTS for 4 years now. When it started I lost over 50 lbs in under 3 months. I was later diagnosed with MALS.
