Aromasin (exemestane)

Posted by trixie1313 @trixie1313, Aug 8, 2019

Anyone taking Aromasin? I've been on anastrozole (Arimidex) which caused severe splitting headaches and was then started on letrozole (Femara). On that I began having severe joint pain in feet wrists, elbows, and worse yet the knees as well as severe fatigue. Oncologist is giving me a 3-week break off and then am to start up on Aromasin. Here we go again!

I pay $5, but I worked for a medical hospital/clinic entity and it was part of my employment to keep the same medical for ten years. Some companies have programs to help defray the costs of their medicines which might be looked into. And sometimes paying cash rather than going through insurance will cost less.

Addendum: And that's for 90 days.

Yes, I broke out with hives and had some nasty hives from Anastrozole; it seems I had an allergic reaction to it. It also caused some memory loss issues. Tomoxifin also caused memory/cognitive issues. My doctor prescribed Arimidex/Exemestane at my visit this past Tuesday as an alternative to those. But when I went to pick them up at the pharmacy I was charged $175, at my regular Walgreens pharmacy. I did not complete the purchase and am seeking info. on why they are so expensive. I’d rather go back to Tomoxifin and just put up with memory loss and cognitive issues!

Get the GoodRX app. It will show you the cost for the same prescription at all the Pharmacies in your area, along with coupons. You don't have to use Walgreens. The new pharmacy can have your prescription transferred.

Thank you maryw28. I have GoodRX app. And it shows Exemestane near the same retail price at most pharmacies. I don’t think my pharmacy has charged my insurance correctly. I know that Medicare covers this, and if not my supplemental insurance should. Thanks for the feedback. I so appreciate everyone on this sight, I don’t feel so alone!

i looked into that drug it is a LOT more expensive than the other drugs. SORRY!! My Doctor was thinking of switching me - because of hand pain, but changed her mind. I also have essential Tremor, and steroids make it so much worse so that was not an option. Going to see a Rheumatologist now. Anastrozole makes arthritis WORSE - in case no one told you guys that.

Kathy - I found my arthritis was so much worse with the anastrozole as well - feet elbows, spine, and hands. The exemestane isn't quite as bad on my joints, but I'm noting bouts of depression every once in a while.

This post is fir Colleen Young.
I posted information about searching for a radiology center, discussing mammos. ABVS Ultrasound and MRIs
I would like to post a followup after undergoing these tests. Information would be very helpful to other women going through the same issues.
Thank you for your help.
