@mamacita I have been on omeprazole (Prilosec) for a number of years now, maybe 7. Yep, I would like to get off of it too but the biggest problem I have heard is that it increases the chance of having Alzheimer's, which is a pretty big problem of course, one of my greatest fears frankly. Other studies dispute that though.
If you have BE and it is not kept under control with a PPI such as omeprazole it can advance to esophageal cancer. I have an appointment with my endocrinologist next month and before that I plan to do a little research to see if some of the other PPIs do not have any problems associated with them, but lets' face it, most pharmaceuticals do. It's like the drug commercials say, "your doctor has prescribed this because he thinks the risks of not taking it outweigh the risks of taking it" (not an exact quote of course).
I do not have any short term problems with it though. Initially, I did get an upset stomach from it but that went away after a short while.

Someone asked about table sugar and it should be cut out of your diet. Cut regular salt out too and buy Celtic salt which is safe for our disease.
Is honey allowed as a sweetener ?
Honey has a ph below 5 so it’s only allowed if it has been neutralized by nut butters. It’s not recommended during the healing phase of this diet.
I’ve lost track of which diet this is and for what condition(s). This thread has gone afar from the original question about BE.
This is from the acid watchers diet book. Gerd and BE.
I’m starting my 28 day healing diet tomorrow. I don’t have any reflux issues at all. Water only for the next 28 days!
That's wonderful news! Keep us posted along the way. My mom is almost done with her's and has no reflux issues now either!
@riflemanz64 WHAT? You do not mean no food, just water, do you?

I can eat foods from the book but I meant to say no coffee just water all day.
