Microphones for friends in noisy spaces
I have seen references to microphones for associates in noisy places which will send voice to your hearing aids. Can anyone give me some more informaiton, experiences, sources etc on these. Sounds like a great idea.

I have Oticon OPN with a clip on bluetooth device that can be used as an external microphone. I think it's called the Connect Clip (or something close) I've tried it out at home, but never used it. When I go to dinner with my wife, we take a booth and sit side by side.
When it is in the microphone mode, you definitely can hear what the person close is saying. I use it mostly for the phone.

Monday afternoon I received my Roger Select from my audiologist and used it for the first time tonight in church. Roger sits on the lectern, I turn on the receiver which is on a lanyard around my neck and set my t-coil program on my ha. I could hear clearly even to the extend that I could actually comprehend the Bible lesson and understand all that was said. Most important of all I was sitting with a teen and six year old child. I got up from where I was sitting to get some hand outs from the foyer and I thought they were following me. They were not. I could hear them so clearly and they were still sitting in the pew. When I returned my six year old friend chatted with me and for the first time ever I could hear her and follow her conversation. Later when I retold it to others it made me cry. An experience I hope I will never forget. Phonak Roger Select and I still have a lot to learn to use it but I'm off to a rewarding start.
@dorothynoz45 I’m so glad to hear that you had such a great experience with the Roger Select. I’m waiting to try one. I tried the Roger Table Mic I really liked it for a meeting but it didn’t work well in a restaurant with too much background noise. The room I used it in had 2 window air conditioners and even with them running I could clearly hear each person speak clearly although only one person spoke at a time. I’m hoping the Roger Select can work in a restaurant.
There are different assistive listening devices that are accessories to your hearing aids that are microphones. Like my Resound hearing aids have a mini mic.... its an accessory the compliments my hearing aids. I have it to use when I am with my husband and want to talk with him in a busy restaurant. He wears it and I talk with him and I can hear him in my hearing aids. His voice registers directly into my hearing aids from the mini mic. Pretty cool. My hearing aids are $6000 and the mic is $200 Very much worth the effort to hear well when I am basically deaf.
judysmayo Thank you for your quick reply, very encouraging. Reading your post the thought runs through my mind, finally some hope and positive quality assistance. It won't be perfect but tonight was certainly worth it and I am looking forward to more tears of joy in the near future. I am a retired teacher and children are important to me but I lost them when my shaky hearing took a nose dive.
At age 4, secured in a car seat, my granddaughter wore my remote mic and I could hear her in the front seat! She loved it and enjoyed doing tests! Haven’t tried it yet in a less controlled environment.
I’ve been trying the Phonak Roger Select for a couple of weeks. I am extremely pleased with it. I’ve used it at least 6 times in restaurants and have been able to hear those at the table in spite of the high levels of background noise. In a meeting with window air conditioners it totally blocked out that hum and I could hear the speakers perfectly. It’s far superior to my RemoteMic and RogerPen which don’t eliminate background noise but amplify it. The Select links up to the TV and cell phone through Bluetooth and my neck loop.
I use my connectclip in noisy restaurants, and when on tours I have the guide wear it. Roger pen and it’s other microphones are even better. With Oticon I’d have to use a MyLink neckloop to Connect it to my hearing aid telecoils. Phonak connects to Roger by Bluetooth.

Hi
Glad to read of your success with the Roger Select. I am going to trial it with my audiologist . I was researching it and was not impressed with the Roger Pen.....know someone who is having a lot of trouble with it. Phonak aids have been my choice for many years now. Tried the MyLink and returned it....awful sound quality and picked up too much ambient noise. My Audi lets me trial anything gratis. She’s a blessing.
Regards from FL Mary
What hearing aids do you have? Do you have to use the MyLink neckloop with the Roger Select?
