Medical marijuana for neuropathy

Posted by wilcy @wilcy, Jul 24, 2019

Started vaping with high potential medical marijuana! Have neuropathy in feet and starting in hands! About to be in wheelchair! It doesn’t even relax me! Any suggestions?

I would try different strains of marijuana. They can be different. You may also want to try Kratom, which can also be quite relaxing and help pain. I get mine from Happy Hippo, on line. You buy a slow strain, which is quite relaxing and helps pain. Some CBD drops and salve, applied directly to the feet, can help. Not all Kratom or CBD drops are equal, in any way, so buying quality products are essential. I have done extensive research, and like the products I buy. The pain of neuropathy is so hard to bare. I wish you well. I try to keep as busy as I possibly can, and when it is way too much, I will do the CBD drops or Kratom. The darn meds for Neuropathy seem to do little. Good luck. Lori Renee

@peggyn and @wilcy -- The following information was posted by @colleenyoung in another discussion discussing Kratom.

With the mention of kratom in this discussion, I'd like to post this important note from a Mayo Clinic pharmacist:

Kratom is a natural product but it does have significant risks and side effects. Because of these risks the FDA banned import of Kratom in August 2016 and issued a notice of intent to classify 2 chemicals in Kratom as Schedule 1 drugs (the same category as heroin). There are no FDA-approved uses for kratom, and the agency has received concerning reports about the safety of kratom. FDA is actively evaluating all available scientific information on this issue. (2019) https://www.fda.gov/news-events/public-health-focus/fda-and-kratom

Kratom can cause dependence and withdrawl symptoms including aggression, anxiety and other negative psychiatric effects, muscle aches, spasms, tremors, insomnia, fever and upset stomach. It can also cause dangerous slowed breathing and seizures. It can worsen psychiatric disease and may increase the risk of suicide. Kratom can impair liver function. Kratom interacts with other herbal medications including Jimson Weed. It interacts with sedating medications. It has the potential for many other drug interactions because of the way it is metabolized.

@wilcy, you may be interested in reading this discussion on Connect:
- CBD oil for Neuropathy https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/cbd-oil-for-neuropathy/

Members have shared their hits and misses with cannabidiol (CBD), a naturally occurring cannabinoid constituent of cannabis and medical marijuana. With any unapproved substance, it is really important that you diligently do your own research. Remember what may work for one person may not work for someone else.
Also, know your rights. What's legal and what isn't. While vaping may be a better alternative to smoking, it can still be problematic for your lungs. Are you able to talk to your doctor about using medical marijuana? Is she/he open to discussion?

I take Kratom in the powder form. I add about a half to a whole teaspoon of Kratom to about 2 ounces of water. I gulp it down, in one big gulp, cause the stuff tastes pretty awful. But it helps to relax and relieve pain. Effects last about one hour to one hour and a half. I have researched Kratom extensively. Go to Happy Hippo, on line, and order slow strains of the plant. Those are the ones that relax and help pain. You can buy the smallest samples. Happy Hippo is reputable, and sells very fresh stuff. Ships in a day or maybe two. Good luck. I actually like it better than CBD. Lori Renee

Just more commentary on Kratom....I read a lot about Kratom from what Colleen sent me. I do not get any side effects, bad symptoms at all from Kratom. I do not crave it. I do not abuse it in any way. I only use it about twice a week, tops. You have to find the amount that works for you. Everyone is different. You never go beyond this amount. There is no need to. The deaths from Kratom were young kids abusing drugs, usually with other drugs in their system. They were teenagers, and young adults. Just be an adult, and use it very wisely. Being in severe pain is no joke. Kratom helps. But be smart. Lori
