Waiting for the event
My mom used to tell me “once you get there you will be ok”. It’s the waiting days before or hours before that enter my mind and take me away from the Now Moment. Finally today I have a rehearsal to start working on a musical that I’m playing. I try to stay very busy before the big events and they are all big events to GAD people. I like the outdoors this time of year because of the new spring births of life. Two cardinal babies are being fed by their mom at my feeder. The grass is green and we miss the color green sooooo much. It’s summer now and next week will be 80’s all week. Do you see the optimism in my thought process. Try it, you will like it. Take care.

@stsopoci Great thoughts to start my day. Thank you! I am sitting with my cup of coffee, and our cat has, for only the second time, laid down on my lap for a morning snooze. She did it not long after we adopted her 15 months ago, and not since. Usually she let me hold her in my arms but not want to lay in a lap. For this I am optimistic! Isn't it wonderful how much appreciation we can have for small things?! I hope you will let us know how the cardinal babies fare.

Life is growing in front of us all of the time. Yes we are trapped in a time that moves forward and we can’t control that time, yet. I think it’s easier for us to be apart of the journey and not try to control the future. Today I met with my men at a coffee shop and talked about beautiful national parks that we have been to or want to go to. This planet is incredible. We need to appreciate it. I’ll check the babies around 8pm today cause that’s when the cardinals quietly come to the feeder.
Babies are fine and growing.
Hello, @stsopoci - I'd like to invite into this conversation a few others who have mentioned generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) who may also have some thoughts to share on the subject of the challenge of the waiting days or hours before a big event taking us away from the "now moment," like @jeanette52 @stressedmesseddepressed @yangedd @abomino13 @anon89880224 @deliasanderson @guener.
You mentioned trying to stay very busy before big events, stsopoci. Do you find that meeting with your friends for coffee helps in the waiting period?
Meeting with friends or new friends on my bike ride this morning, really helps to relax my constant worrying about the future. I love the exercise and the conversation that goes on in groups. Join a lot of them and sit or walk or run or bike while you are keeping your thoughts in the present moment. It’s a wonderful time void of anxious thoughts that are not REAL! Laugh, cry, have fun with positivity..... it’s good addictive behavior.

Group activities are great ways to keep in the present. I've enjoyed them as well. You've given us all some great ideas!
