How do you deal with dry eyes?

I have dry eyes due to sjogren's syndrome. Does anyone else deal with dry eyes?

@maryy
I've had dry eyes for years due to 9 eye surgeries from the age of 3 onward. I found that Similasan dry eye relief eye drops are soothing. However, because of lung problems I have in the last 3 months have started running a vaporizer and found my dry eyes have gone down exponentially! If you all have one, just try running it and see if it helps. Be sure the unit is clean.

@maryy yes, vaporizers are good. Moving to Ireland is also good for "moisture seekers". The other helpful suggestion from my old opthalmologist was to wear swim goggles at night when you sleep. Keeps all the moisture in. Definitely helps. Soaking the eyelids with a hot compress helps if you are also prone to blepharitis. Helps to unblock the glands.

Maybe. It is a more viscous eyedrop. Just the one my dry eye seems happy with.

@trixie1313 I have to use it also in summertime as in SOCAL the humidity is in the 30 or lower so I use it in summer or when the Santa Anna winds blow

@sue225: My ophthalmologist said I probably don't completely close my eyes while asleep. To help my eyes from drying, I wear sleep eye mask at night! I'll try swim goggles to see if it would work better. Thanks!

The goggles fit tightly providing a perfect seal around the eye. You will find in the morning drops of moisture that have accumulated on the inside of the lens.

I also have dry eyes and my highly regarded cornea doctor had been prescribing Restasis and Systane eye drops which provided me me with some relief. I don't think regular eye doctors are knowledgeable about dry eye syndrome. Now an optometrist at Johns Hopkins provides treatment but a real expert is a New York Ophthalmologist Dr. Latkney who specializes in treating dry eyes. H e took me off Restasis and Systane put me on Muro128 eye ointment which really helped. Please consider trying it. Dr. Latkeny has written a book on Dry Eyes which is worth reading.

You are correct about Dr. Latkany, he is the founder and director of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and wrote a book, The Dry Eye Remedy. One of his chapters entitled Your Home Eye Spa explains to the reader what to do at home to relieve symptoms of dry eye. I sent him an email hoping he could refer me to a holistic opthamologist in Palm Beach County. He invited me to make an appointment to see him in New York. I recommend sufferers of dry eye obtain his book, previously mentioned.

I have Sjogren 's syndrome which causes dry eye and dry mouth for many years! I also use Allergan's Refresh eye drops twice a day. Just read that Krill oil may help relieve dry eye symptom. Start taking it last week instead of fish oil!

I use Systane liquid tears as needed for dry eye, PM ointment at night and have an RX for pataday. I have recently found that an eye mask at night really helps. Daily scrubbing of eye lids is helpful. For dry mouth, brush twice daily plus waterpik and swishing with water a few times a day helps. Dental visits 2 X year for cleaning and check on gums.
