Addiction & Recovery - Meet others & come say hi
Welcome to the Addiction & Recovery group on Mayo Clinic Connect.
This is a welcoming, safe place where you can meet people who live with and understand addiction and the journey of recovery. Together we can learn from each other and share stories about challenges and triumphs, setbacks and the things the keep you on track.
Pull up a chair and connect. Why not start by introducing yourself? What is your addiction experience? What helped you on the road to recovery? Got a question, tip or story to share?

Thank you Lisa! I am very interested in this group as most are. Its a very scary situation, I think because there's so many unknowns concerning this virus. I'm happy they started it
As we all know, addiction is a serious matter. As such, I thought you might enjoy the movie, "A Street Cat Named Bob." It's based on a true story of an addict who is adopted by a cat (named Bob) and a story of the power of music and animals in the healing process. It is available live streaming on Amazon Prime (and perhaps other live streaming services). Also available as a book. Here is a link to the movie trailer,
Thank heavens for this! I am 41 years clean and sober, a widow taking care of a small farm in N. Minnesota and find Zoom meetings with my local groups more of a pain than a pleasure. I am not sure why this is, but felt an instinctive "this might work!" when I saw this resource. Thank you so much.
Hello @mothergoose76 and welcome to Mayo Connect!
I'm glad that you found Connect and have posted in the Addiction & Recovery discussion group. Congratulations on having been clean and sober for 41 years!
You say that you have been doing Zoom meetings with your local groups. Have these been AA groups or something similar?
What do you feel has been your greatest resource in maintaining your sobriety?
Hello Colleen, I do AA Zoom meetings, but find doing my daily readings (Keep It Simple and the Big Book steps) and a bit of meditation afterwards helps most, Also, I try to call a member of my group or a friend I haven't heard from in a while daily. i dislike talking on the phone, so this is a real stretch for me, but worth it as it falls into the "service" category. Tough in these times. My greatest resource? Probably remembering and reciting the Promises anytime I feel anxious, abandoned or hopeless. All have come true for me. Vicki
Hello, is this an active chat ?
Hi everyone. I have multiple addictions. My total count is 20. The two main ones are actually Compulsive overeating and spending. I also know that what works for me is accountability. It is also going to meetings and sharing my struggles and esh daily. It also is outreach calls and using the phone for them. But also meeting with my sponsor and sponsee. But it is also doing service since that keeps me from going into the addictions in the first place. My rock bottom is when I landed in the hospital after I relapsed and binged on my trigger foods. I almost died back in 2020 in Oct. I had to have 4 blood transfusions, 5 iron infusions and now need to take iron daily for the rest of my life. I almost died back then and I was actually hurting and scaring the one person I love the most and respected as well which is my mom. My cat was scared to back then. I ended up calling my mom everyday until my release from the hospital. I learned a valuable lesson then which was don't screw around with your recovery. You may not make it out alive from relapse. My highest weight by the way was 458 lbs. I am grateful to be alive right now.
Good Morning. Does anyone have any experience withdrawing from Fioricet? I have been taking these pills for over 30 years. I am trying to figure out a way to cut down and stop. I have read that stopping too fast can cause seizures. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
