Can Gabapentin make neuropathy pain worse?

Posted by cwallen9 @cwallen9, Apr 16, 2019

I started getting peripheral neuropathy pain about nine months ago in my feet and hands right after I received a cervical steroid injection. I started taking gabapentin about 7 months ago. I have gradually increased my dose from 100 mg a day to 1500 mg. I can't say that it has decreased my pain at all. In fact, my pain has gotten steadily worse. I was just wondering if it is possible that gabapentin can sometimes make neuropathy pain worse. My EMG and biopsy results are negative for short fiber neuropathy so far.

I'm right there with you my neuropathy is in both my legs clear up to the middle of my thighs and my right foot is really bad but I manage but like you I am in constant pain and it never ends.

someone asked if gabapentin can actually make neuropathy pain worse.
I have read a number of people who have claimed that after starting gabapentin their pain did become worse. When I took it I never noticed any difference whatsoever but my brother takes it and helped him tremendously.

Yes, I have taken turmeric for a long time but recently within last few weeks increased dosage to 8-10 pills a day once I stopped gabapentin. It find it helps. I do take CBD oil, lipoid acid, vitamin b12 omegas but aside from metformin and insulin I gave up on all prescription drugs as I just can’t see the difference in pain relief not to mention the unpleasant side effects so I’m all in with turmeric, but maybe it’s the placebo effect ha ha but seriously you can’t take too much so give it a try and take a lot you may find some relief. Please let me know as well. Take care

If you are a Costco member, there is an excellent liquid Turmeric out there I've been using. It gets to the bloodstream much faster and is far more effective for my neuropathy issues and other pain issues I have. Qunol Liquid Turmeric 1,000 mg., 30.4 Ounces, its a bit spendy, but I find its worth it. $34.99 a bottle.

@pjfrahm - I get my Qunol Liquid Turmeric at Costco also. It's also available online through Amazon and other retailers. I also use Qunol Liquid CoQ10 that I get from Costco at about the same price. You can get the smaller 20.3 oz bottles of both online for about $10 cheaper.

Qunol turmeric is the only liquid I can tolerate. Taking CoQ10 in pill form still. How's the liquid taste John? Keep in mind I'm a big baby ! 😂

Hi Rachel @rwinney, I think the Qunol Liquid CoQ10 tastes a little better than the Turmeric. It has a pineapple taste. I normally take 2 tsp which is their 100 mg dosage. I like it better than the 1.5 oz of hemp oil I guzzle down each morning 🙂 In fact it's the last liquid supplement I take in the morning - I go from worse to best taste in sequence.

They currently have CoQ10 on sale in the larger bottles at Costco. Never hurts to save a few $$.
