it's safe to take a multi-vitamin after transplant, as far as which one just make sure you do your research on the product company. As far as the Vit.C, it has a multitude of benefits, and many functions in the body. You couldn't take enough Vit. C to counter the effects of your anti-rejection medicine, it works in a different way. Hope that helps.
Much appreciated @ca426 🙂
I take a regular dose daily multi-vitamin as advised by my transplant team. At one point I also took an iron supplement under the direction a monitoring of my transplant team.
Since we are all dealing with different medical complexities and individual health issues, I would urge you to talk to your transplant doctor about any over-the-counter vitamins, supplements, or medications.

@webiondev I always check anything I am in doubt about with my transplant team. What is right for one person may not be another. I do not need anything like magnesium or potassium but I know of people who do need to take them. I would think a regular daily vitamin would not hurt but it just takes a minute to check with them or send them a message on their portal.

I am careful with my diet but ever since I’ve been on Tacrolimus I have gained weight and really have to try hard to keep it off. Anyone experience the same?
@wonton, I'm taking Tacrolimus and Cellcept. When I received my transplant (liver and kidney in 2009) I was skin and bones after the edema and ascites went away. My transplant team told me that I needed to eat and to regain some muscle mass after a difficult and lengthy pretransplant period. They emphasized a heart healthy diet with fruits and vegetables and avoiding fatty food fried food. Both me and my husband had to adjust out menu and cooking style. However, after I reached a satisfactory weight, I found that I coud easily gain more weight than I intended. So I am watching portion sizes and walking. It helps me, but weight is a constant concern for me.
I don't think that the tacrolimus is influencing my weight, but I do credit the initial weight gain to my need to gain weight in the beginning. I also read that it is common for transplant patients to gain weight because we were not able to enjoy foods prior to transplant, and now we can enjoy so many foods again. Here is an interesting article from the Transplant Newsfeed Blog that might give you some ideas.

@wonton,
Have you asked your transplant team whether it is the Tacrolimus or maybe another medication is causing the weight gain? That is where I would encourage you to begin. Another thing that helped me was an appointment with a transplant dietician who reviewed my personal food choices and made suggestions that applied to me.
When will you be seeing your transplant team?
Yes, I have gained about 30 pounds and dieting and exercise do not help. I am going to talk with my doctors about it as the extra weight has made me feel tired with little or no energy.
Same story as @rosemarya ! To a T based on her post. Can't eat to loving food again. In addition to walking and portion control, I also eliminated sugar and gluten which has helped a ton in my journey from concave pre and immediately post-transplant to a BMI of almost 32 to now maintaining a healthy weight. I’m a 56 yo female, 5’4” about 140lbs now (got to 170lbs post LT!) My LT was 5/3/23 so 18 months out. My LT nutritionist told me to stick with natural sweeteners and sugar alcohols. Lots to choose from out there. My fav is Swerve (erythritol). Good luck to you! You can do it!
