scarring after cataract surgery

Posted by ladybugmg @ladybugmg, Mar 19, 2019

I have scarring after having cataract surgery and the doctor wants to remove it using laser. Has anyone had this done and what was the result?

Was this done in the doctor's offices?

@ladybugmg Yes it was no problem only took seconds to zap of I went to lunch afterwards .For future reference put the @before the person you are replying to makes it easier to answer if you do.

As I understand it, the sack that holds the lense develops a film in 20% of cataract removal cases, and it can be burned away using a laser in the office. This is what happened in my case a few months afters cataract surgery.

@ladybugmg That happened me to too, it is called PCO, also removed by laser. Thank God for that!

I had the cataract surgery January 8, 2019, developed inflammation and was treated with steroids/ After 4 weeks it did not clear up so the YAG -laser was done. I still can't see well and the inflammation has gotten worse. I was told the next step would be a needle to draw out the excess fluid. Very nervous about this next step. Searching for alternatives to this needle.

@jaguar737, Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I will be a candidate for cararact surgery in the next few years, so I appreciate that you have shared your experience here. I think it is helpful to hear about experiences of others who have gone thru similar procedures. I do realize that we are all different, but I also have the thought, "what if" forming in the back of my mind.
As for my current experience, I do get routine treatment with eye injections, and the area is completely numbed with drops so that there is no pain at all. The only discomfort that I feel is the nervous anticipation and fear of pain - which I have never had. The thought of it is the worse part of it.
When do you learn if you will need the fluid drained?

@jaguar737, I hope that the steroid treatment will reduce the fluids so you won't need the procedure. Will you give me an update after your May appointment?
