The system NOW??
Am 86, wife 87, I have many health issues. Dr. has commented on haveing children closer. Not possible for continous care. They are ready to retire and have their own life. Hope his are there for him. Not all children are caregivers. Have their own lifes.. And why do I have to find Dr.s for issues and then they have to get referel from my Dr. Also E.R.s stabilize and dump you to see a dr. Have to find my own??? Don't understand the system now. Wasn't like this when raising our young'ns.... Old and confused....

@georgette12 @lioness this youngish man [35] has had a tough row to hoe in life, so the fact he appreciates me is a blessing.

@gingers Totally agree
Ginger. I just got a call from a young 35ish woman I worked with several years ago. She used to call me mom. I told her she was my forever adopted daughter too. Well this call meant a lot to me as she told me she would always be there for me. I have two biological sons but this compassionate lovely woman says things I guess my children can't say. Anyway, the moral, I guess, is that Angel's seem to appear when we need them. Like your stepson and my friend.
Wonderful words to hear @gingerw You must be a terrific 'bonus mom' for sure! Thankfully, kindness seems to never go unrewarded in our lives!
Cheers and keep in touch!
With my mom, going to the hairdresser was more of a social event for her than a hair appointment! It stayed that way her entire life! I have to admit, too, I have a favorite barber and go out of my way to get to his shop 🙂

I agree, @IndianaScott, our personal care people: hair stylist, barber, massage therapist, etc. become an important part of our support network and connecting with them each month or so is very comforting to many of us. We are all wired to form relationships and these are important ones.
@IndianaScott I call him my bonus son in response. He has a lot of experiences many never have, including 3 tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. He has a real giving and strong drive to be his best.

@gingerw @georgette You both must be very special people to have others care so much about you. What a heartwarming feeling that must be.
@IndianaScott I was in the ER up here in Manchester one time and happened to mention that I had a hair appointment the next day. The doctor attending to me wanted me to see my PCP the next day so he asked what time my appointment was so he could schedule the appointment without it being in conflict! He must have understood the importance of getting your hair done, either that of my hair looked so bad he figured I really needed it!
I hate the local hospital that my PCP is affiliated with, but I have zero complaints about their ER. I was there many times prior to transplant. The doctors there were all great.

@contentandwell It never ceases to amaze me how we are placed in someone else's life, or them in ours. This young man experienced some things no one should have to, and with his dad's support and tough love, got through it all. We hit it off from the first time I met him, and he told me how much happier his dad was with me around. Until he was recently promoted, he spent his "rest" days as a long haul trucker, with us.

@contentandwell What a thoughtful doctor! I am impressed that he realized the value of a hair appointment.
