Has anyone had a tight band feeling after total knee replacement?
I am 8 weeks post TKR and have had this very tight band around my knee since week one. My Dr at 6 wks says it is normal and will go away. Has anyone else had this and did it go away and when?

I too am having that feeling with each of my knees. Doctor Both times said it was a normal issue and would go away over time. I am close to 3 weeks out from knee number 2. Last knee was 8 months ago. Outpatient PT did massage and tissue release and while somewhat painful was really helpful. As I recall that tight feeling was gone by week 6. And I already feel it lessening with this knee. I hope this helps you feel less nervous about this. But by all means, keep your Doctor and PT informed so they can help. Good luck!
@laureenaugust Hi there. Welcome to Connect. I think this issue of tightness around the knee after surgery is seldom so easily resolved. The massage and scar tissue release seems to have worked for your post TKR issues. Very often it is the build-up of scar tissue which is what happens when the fascia connects and prevents fluid movement. Thank you for your good wishes. Keep in touch and let us know how you make out with knee number 2 in a few weeks. We will be cheering for you.
May you be free and protected from inner and outer harm.

I'm in my fifth year and it's still bad. Going in today to see my surgeon for my tkr that's hurt for years. Had shots nerve deadening, not has helped. Also talking about my other knee that now needs replacing!
Mines been almost 5 years and still hurts as bad today as when I had it done. Had all kinds of shots, nerve deadening shots, nothing works. Going into to talk to my surgeon again. Tired of these do tors acting like they have hardly heard of this. Were up to 322 on this site with the same problem. When I signed on 4 months ago it was around 200.
Wish you well.
Hate to make your day worse but I'm in for 4 1/2 years and it's still bad!!! Had all kinds of shots, nerve deadening and nothing works. The more I walk the tighter it gets. I've fallen many times as I dont lift my leg high enough and i trip. Brain says pain, then unconsciously i dont lift it any higher and bam a stumble.
Wish you well.
Had mine done 2014 and its hurts like heck. When I try to excercise the band gets tighter and hurts very much for days then goes back to just plain hurting. Had had so many different shots. I still think it's my ligaments on each side.
I am having pain in my right knee but I will endure after reading about everyone's botched TKR! I gather it would not be worth having done. But I know all about messes since I have had nothing but regret since my TRHR!
I had my first TKR 4/2017. It still hurts like it did right after I had it ! I had 2 surgeons tell me NOT to do the nerve deadening procedure. So I didn’t. I’m thinking of seeing another surgeon about a revision . Don’t want to go through this again- but will if it helps. My 2nd partial knee replacement was 2 years ago today. It is fine- but I still have issues with stairs. I need to return to PT. Build up more strength is what the DR said. Now that I’m on Medicare- I can. But now the Pandemic! I’ve put it off. Was supposed to start back up this past March.
Might be worth seeking out “focused” shockwave treatment to facilitate breaking up scar tissue and to help with decreased pain levels. It is a non-invasive therapy that has virtually no side effects. Somewhat of a challenge to find practitioners using focused shockwave in this country but it has been widely utilized in Europe & Canada for decades.
Hello everyone. Its Chicken has Lips . TKR a year
ago . Severely bothered by ITBand Syndrome from
eight weeks on . In the last six’s weeks it’s gotten
dramatically better. On the advice of my surgeon,I
rode a bike or recumbent one 2-3 days a week, lifted weights 2-3 times a week to build up the leg muscles. And I have added muscle and strength to balance the knee. Also , I got fitted for orthotics. I think that helped a lot too .Before that regimen I tried stretching, ultrasound and PT . I think strengthening the quads and adductor muscles were critical. Good Luck
