~ Depressed and scared, not making it financially ~
I'm 74 years old and moved 3 years ago from MD to VA. My girls had hounded me to come down for several years so I finally did it. I sold my condo (at a loss), and a job with a dentist. Well, here I am, and financially I'm just not making it. That amount I earned from the dentist covered me with just a little left over. Now, more than often, I don't have enough. I eeked out just enough for my rent this month, and now there's not even enough for a quart of milk. I get S.S. and what I get goes right out for my rent (usually there's enough), and my son sends me money each month. I'm sickened, depressed, and scared. I live in low income housing, and have a budget that practically squeaks. I'm thinking of starting to sell some of my furniture.
I so wish I'd have stayed in MD, for so many reasons, this being one of them. I have applied for oodles of jobs (they're all on line now), and legally they're not supposed to ask you how old you are (although many do), but they all ask when you graduated from either high school or college .... well, it doesn't take rocket science to figure out how old a person is. I'm so depressed about this, and .so upset that my stomach.constantly churns.
Thanks for letting me vent.

@fiesty76 I fought the nasty stuff when we lived in central California. It was a losing battle for sure.
@marjou We saw a million of those cute little guys in Roosevelt National Park. Our curse is sage rats, AKA Townsend Ground Squirrels. My dog loves hunting and catching them. It's amazing watching her stand at point for minutes, then dig furiously to catch them. She would eat them, except she usually brings them to the lawn, where I see them and toss them into the burn barrel. I don't like her eating them.
Jim
@lioness I looked it up in the dictionary. They're name is actually coypu, from South America, and are the only aquatic rodent.
@jimhd Thanks Jim I thought they where both
@jimhd, Jim, when I first started converting my backyard to flowerbeds, it took a large part of one summer to dig down to whatever lies deeply beneath TX to remove about 36" of Bermuda from parts of the yard. Incredible root system that allows Bermuda to spring up between cracks in sidewalk joints! Luckily, I was younger and stronger then and probably increased my muscle mass by inches!! vbg
When I eventually hired a prof. landscaper to convert the entire back to flower/veggie beds, I left only one small patch of grass. He had the equipment needed to upload the Bermuda before designing and adding new soil for the yard. Thank goodness!!!!
@jimhd and @lioness, An entirely new specie to me. Thanks for the information!
@marjou, Wondering if your prairie dogs in New Mexico immigrated to TX or vice-versa? vbg We even have a "visitors" area" next to a large recreational facility and park that is designated: "Prairie Dog Town". It is well tended and supervised. No fees but children and visitors are allowed to "feed" the little guys whose antics can be comical. I know they can become a problem for some of our farmers but this designated area is another activity my grands enjoyed when visiting. Of course that was immediately followed up by the exciting rides for the boys at the park.
Bless you karen00 .... Your situation sounds rough too. It seems that we get to a certain point in life, unless we endlessly wealthy, there are no "golden years." I know that's whining, but to me that term is a farse. Do take care with everything you're dealing with ... fibro and RA are no picnic, for sure. I also will be praying for you.

Hi Karen ..... I was just going to say the same thing you did ..... this is not a political forum .... that only leads to disagreeable disagreements as everyone has their own opinion. Yes, I saw my Psychologist in MD for 12-14 years - weekly, until I had a breakdown and then it was 3x a week. I still go up monthly to see him. He has been of immeasureable help to me. I also have a Psychiatrist down here whom I see every 3-4 weeks ..... he's very good and seems excellent with my meds., but we only get 10 min. with him. He is the only Psychiatrist in my county......amazing. I will see him this week. I know some days are blacker than others due to the Bipolar 2. Thank the Lord it's not Bipolar 1 or I'd probably be running down the street naked!
