Circulating Tumor Cells (CTC) Test. How to understand results?

Posted by ina3 @ina3, Feb 26, 2019

The doctor conducted CTCs test for my dad. According to the test my dad has 24 CTCs and the preferred number of CTCs is 5. His recommendation is to start Antiblastic therapy .

Have others done similar test and how the results were used? Will these 24 CTCs help in targeted therapy? Reading from articles CTCs hold great promise as biomarkers for the early diagnosis and treatment selection.

What about Antiblastic therapy? Is this something that is recommended here in USA?

Shall we request to see what are these 24 CTCs? We have not received the list.

Greatly appreciate your guidance.

Hi Ina,
Testing circulating tumor cells (CTCs) or liquid biopsies do hold promise for the individualized management of cancer. You may have already read these articles online, but these help explain how they might be used.
- The Prognostic Role of Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs) in Lung Cancer https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6102369/
- Liquid biopsies: detecting and treating cancer sooner https://individualizedmedicineblog.mayoclinic.org/2017/10/03/liquid-biopsies-detecting-and-treating-cancer-sooner/

From what I could find online, there is only one FDA-approved circulating tumor cell test available at this time for breast, prostate and colorectal cancers.
What is the antiblastic therapy that is being recommended for your father?

Collen thanks. The results are not in English so its hard to translate. I see that they used antiCD-45 with Cellsearch system. Is it the one that is approved here? Dont know about the antiblastic therapy yet. When i find out will let you know.

@colleenyoung we just found out that the doctor is recommending Personalized vaccines for cancer immunotherapy. Have you heard success stories? Are there any risks? Thanks
