Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

I did an Ancestry DNA test a few years ago, and my biological mother was found, she's Belfast Northern Ireland. I've been to Ireland, but not Belfast. I drink tea, I just started coffee 2 years ago, at age 52 🙂 Why people drink coffee escapes me, but then I'm Northern Ireland genetically.
I'll try that, I could make 4 servings of steel cut oats, and warm each serving from the refrigerator. I don't know why I don't try that? I cook my 1 serving of oats, religiously, twice a week.
I eat Braunschwiger, only from Oscar Mayer. Pork liver pate'. I just love that stuff. My Dad survived to age 88 eating it, it must be ok. Do you like braunschwieger? I eat it, but I can't spell it. 🙂
@Erinmfs
Braunschweiger is a processed meat with a lot of salt. I rarely eat processed meats but I have had it and it is really good. Remember eating it on pumpernickel with red onion when I was young. My mom was from Kilkenny. We were suppose to do a trip this past May to Ireland and Scotland but don’t know when that will happen. Have never been to either country, only to England and France. Wanted to have some bangers and mash and authentic kidney pie....and a pint or two.....

@johnbishop
That sounds good. I love cranberries and love to use them in my gluten free cranberry loaf. Never thought to add them to yogurt...long time since I had yogurt....loved plain Greek yogurt with any kind of fruit on top....especially frozen cherries.
I have one last oatmeal portion for tomorrow morning...yay.

Laughing, @johnbishop, Because as a young adult, I asked my mom for her wonderful choc. chip cookie recipe and she told me the same thing your mom told you!!! We all have more in common that unites us than differences, yes? Smiles P.S. Thx for the topping idea for unflavored Greek yogurt, too!
@johnbishop
Good (almost) morning John,
And the cooked Cranberry mixture is better than canned because ???
Yogurt without additional sugar? You gotta be kidding. If you must have yogurt how about a nice crumbled up candy bar on top with some chocolate and carmel sauce. If your determined to eat such awful undigestable things at least try and make this stuff a bit more palatable. We’ll delve into liver and oatmeal after my stomach recovers from the thought of eating such things. I throw out better stuff than that.
Hope you guys get a stomach pump for Christmas!!!
Jake
Merry Christmas @jakedduck1! (and all of my cyber friends). You definitely got some Snickers out of me this morning when I read your post. Especially when I was trying to decide whether or not to give one of my Christmas presents from my son to my beautiful bride of 55 years...or chop them up and top my breakfast oatmeal. 😜
wow, your Mom from Ireland too? I know, braunschweiger isn't on the 'healthy foods' list, but I like it. Where did you go in England and France? I love Paris! I have been twice.
@johnbishop
Now that's what I call a good breakfast.
I wouldn’t ruin a perfectly good candy bar by putting it on oatmeal but it would certainly make the oatmeal go down easier.
Holy smokes!! 55 years!!! The only thing I can equate with that time period (minus 1yr) is my Epilepsy. You definitely came out ahead. Congratulations on such a long and happy marriage.
Enjoy your candy,
Jake
Can tell that we all bear responsibility for bringing our dear @jakedduck1 better into the healthy eating fold in 2021!!! Why it is preposterous and undemocratic not to savor liver and oatmeal...Our work will be cut out for us in the new year.....
@imallears I cannot believe I met the only other person that dresses their oatmeal up the exact same way I do! When I'm sick and my husband offered to make oatmeal for me this is what I envision. What I get is a motel packette with enough hot water to make a paste. Sometimes I think the packette troll visits him at night to dominate his decision-making! lol
