Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

I already have a toaster oven which is out in the garage which is where all the rest of this kitchen gadgetry crap should be too. The air fryer thingy has a button you push if you want to use it as a toaster oven or whatever else you want to use it as if you want to use it as a toaster then you push that button but if you want me to drag in the regular toaster oven so be it. I can use the oven I just don’t do it very often and on occasion I will even use a back burner on my stove. I don’t really think anything will happen but these things could never be predicted so it pays to play it safe. if the stove top and oven really should be used I can always call the lady that occasionally comes in and cooks for me.
I don’t have a grill of any kind I have a large crockpot and I have an electric skillet if that’s of any help.

@jakedduck1 That's all you need just throw some olive oil in it and vegies stir around and put over rice

I’ve been remiss about checking out some quick recipes for you but it’s hard when I don’t know what’s available in your supermarkets.
Here’s what’s new in Florida. The Governor has issued a Stay At Home until the end of April. However, it is less stringent than some of the counties who have already done this. Weather people say this will be an above average year for hurricanes and major storms. No rain for ages and this is our dry season so burn bans are in effect in places.
Our Publix supermarket have plexiglass shields around the cashiers and have taped off 6 ft areas in the waiting lines. Several other stores also have the taped areas. Employees have the choice of wearing gloves and masks. Some supermarkets may close on Sundays to give their employees a rest. My daughter, who is in health care, has decided to use Instacart for Publix shopping both because of the virus and also because she is one busy mother. We will combine lists and either do a pick up or delivery. Will see how that goes. Going grocery shopping was one of the few excursions out that I looked forward to..,yay the grocery store!
I now have a cotton mask and will wear it out when I go places I need to. What prompted me to get one (washable cotton) is the fact that now they say the virus could be spread by just talking and breathing the air in that 6 ft space.
I’ve been basically eating the same way but did attempt my own avacado cilantro sauce which turned out awful. I ate it anyway on fish tacos and threw the rest away...a waste of 2 avacados, 2 limes, fresh cilantro, sour cream etc. I love Costco’s sauce. And this recipe got 5 stars. But , being a cook, I was wondering if mayo would have been better than sour cream and almost changed that but followed the recipe since I wasn’t sure. Cooks should follow their instincts.
I have a yen for grilled octopus and haven’t had pizza in ages. Maybe I’ll make my own.
Get your hand out of the candy bar!
More to come from FL Mary
Anyway, I will check out some recipes.Been busy painting, weeding, etc as weather is great for a few days. And the phone is constantly going off with text messages and crazy corona jokes and what not. I’d like to face time as it’s easier to chat but everyone loves the text messaging.
BTW my mask is adorable. Must be stylish whatever we do.
What do you think about the 2 cruise ships docked in Florida? So many sick people will be in Florida, although I understand most will be treated on the ships, but what about those on land who do not show symptoms yet. They will spread the virus. There are many elderly people in Florida. Kind of scary.
Take care
We received a note from a young neighbor who wanted to know if she could shop for our groceries or did we have anything else that she could do for us❣️
Our priest is saying a daily Mass on line.
My P.A. Daughter called.
We are Skyping with grandchildren.
Another neighbor called.
God is Good.
We are blessed.
P.S. I made chicken soup, the cure all😉
Hope you are feeling better.
My “go to” when I have an upset stomach is cream of rice with a little maple syrup.
Plain old toast topped with what you like also works .. for me.
Hope you are well soon..
There are many cruise ships in the Pacific at the moment. There are six in Australian waters refusing to leave. They propose to fly passengers needing hospital care to mainland. In New Zealand passengers on a cruise were not allowed to disembark. Precisely for the reason you fear in Florida that they will spread the virus. Of course if there are your own citizens aboard that is another matter, but here they would be screened and have to produce a self isolation plan or be quarantined. Tough all round.

Hi,
I’m not against the 2 ships docking. They will all get sick and dye if someone does not let them dock. The 13 critical passengers will be transported to Florida Hospitals and the governor checked the capacity of the hospitals first. All passengers will be tested and cleared. Florida residents who are cleared will go home. For other passengers who are foreign nationals who are cleared they will be transported by bus to Canada or to airports .I think this is being arranged by the cruise ships. They will not be roaming around in Florida. I’m not sure how the foreign nationals who have tested positive but are not critical will be handled but they won’t be allowed to enter Florida. I don’t know how this will play out if their countries won’t admit them. Hopefully there are not that many foreign nationals who test positive. I think I have all this right and so far it’s up to date.

Hello,
Still rather concerned about the 2 cruise ships docking in Florida. People can test negative for up to 2 weeks, and in some cases longer, and still shead the the virus.
So many seniors in Florida, it can be a recipe for disaster.
I live in California, and it is bad enough here. Many nursing homes in California are full of cov19 cases, and because of the residences age, they do not survive.
I am a strong supporter of closing our ports of entry, until this thing blows over
Hello heretaunga1947
Do you live in New Zealand?
Had a friend who married a man from England, and they settled in NZ.
Been to NZ twice. I am interested in knowing if cov19 virus settled down a bit during your spring summer. You are going into your fall winter, while America is headed towards spring summer.
I find it interesting to learn about statistics on where different “things” originate.
Keep in touch
Take care
