Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Can bananas be to ripe to make banana bread?

They can never be too ripe unless they're black Just cut out any black spots. The riper the better actually. And you can also freeze them and use them later for banana bread. There's a trick to the frozen bananas though.

Well, it sounds good but why bother hiding the flavor of Brussels Sprouts by adding all that unhealthy stuff? Sound like Mac and cheese lol.
My favorite way of cooking these beauties it to sauté some bacon, onion and garlic in a pan, halve the sprouts and toss them with the pan mixture and some s and p ....425 oven....and wait for them to start to caramelize..I love them then they’re slight crispy.
We have cooks on this forum with better Brussels sprouts recipes.

@imallers I forgot one more thing about nosebleeds ,if I drink green tea alot my nose will bleed
@imallears
Unhealthy is usually the best tasting and split and baked is getting a little old.
By the way, speaking of unhealthy, I guess you get your bacon & salt from the health food store. Bad stuff like bacon, heavy cream and cheese makes these unpalatable vegetables almost delicious. The bad stuff is for motivation to continue eating vegetables.
Happy eating you health nut,
Jake

Hi,
Wow, I thought that was so bizarre until I goggled it. Most sites suggested that drinking tea or any beverages when too hot will expand the blood vessels causing a nosebleed. Some other people suggested that green tea has a property that could interfere with clotting. So I guess that is something you should avoid unless you want to try cooling it down with an ice cube (that’s what I do ) before drinking. I drink decaffinated green tea every day but I am not prone to nosebleeds. Waiting until my son in law gets another one so I can run to the rescue with q tips and apple cider vinegar.

@jakedduck1 Hey Jake! This looks fantastic to me! I bet you could sub spinach for the Brussels sprouts, too......Karen
@jakeduck1
Don’t eat them if they are unpalatable. I usually do mine without the bacon but we all know how wonderful bacon is.
I had a dexascan recently and have had some more bone loss...last one was 9 years ago. With all the good bone building things I eat and weight bearing exercise every single day...it still happened. I remember you saying you can’t have anything with oxalates so I started researching the best foods for osteoporosis. Turns out that spinach is high in oxalate and I have eaten tons in the past 6 years mostly for eye health. Oxalates prevent calcium absorption in the bones. Spinach is gone from my diet along with several other things like all legumes and almonds. Who would have thought almonds were high in oxalates along with all the berries that I love. Fortunately other leafy greens and fruits are fine so I did my shopping today bone density wise while also eye wise.
My d levels were low in September so I upped the vitamin dosage and will do a vit d blood test this week. I’m going on a bone and joint nutramix regime along with Vit D and K2. I take daily daily essentials and inflammatory and joint compounds from nutramix but am going to discontinuing the daily essentials This stuff ain’t cheap and I get it at cost But it beats taking drugs which are expensive. I am going to post this on the bone and joint forum after a while.
Got off the track but Brussels sprouts are not my all time favorite vegetable . However you can make most vegetables tasty by tossing with EVO , s and p and roasting. My energy level is fantastic and my balance is good and I am increasing the number of times I take my 2 mile walk and hope to start a core class for seniors in addition to the regular classes.
You have to stay on top of this stuff and I find nutrition interesting. My whole family is health conscious and we are slowly getting the grandkids to adapt. It pays off in feeling stronger and more alert and having a well balanced gut.
Getting down from the soapbox now to binge watch some Netflix or amazon or Hulu.....we have it all....and oh yes...I had my vino and one piece of dark chocolate already. You were the one that got me checking for moth larva under the chocolate.
