Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Feb 22, 2019

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

So you must not have liked the coffee if you had to lace it with cream and sugar. Question is, if you hadn’t developed Diabetes would you still be altering its taste? And today do you really enjoy the flavor of black coffee or do you gag it down because of the caffeine?

@jakedduck1 I had no choice as a child when Oma made the coffee for me. I only drank it that way when she made it, otherwise I drank it black like my Father. Today I drink it because it is warm and I prefer warm to chilled drinks. I do like the flavor and I do not drink it for the caffeine. It is only strong enough to get the flavor, not strong enough to flatten my eyeballs and grow hair on my teeth.

So Teresa, do you actually truly honestly enjoy and savor the flavor of that repugnant substance? Did you really like it the first time you tried it?

I developed a taste for coffee, @jakedduck1. It's one of my favorite legally-addictive substances. If you add some sugar and flavored non-dairy creamer, it's the best!

I'll try this reply again..... @jakedduck1 you are funny 😉 I don't really like coffee either, but I do like Chai. you may like Chai, it's tea, with cinnamon, cloves (I think) and I like some whipped cream on top

Hi Erin,
That is a funny error message to have received. Good news is that you didn't blow anything up, but I think you were posting at exactly the same time that your username was being changed as per your request. Your username is no longer a random string of numbers, but a much friendlier @Erinmfs

Thanks for helping out Erin. Now I hope you help me out.
I have a complaint...if I leave a page where I’m signed in at I have to resign in. When I first joined it wasn’t like that. I signed in and was in for life. It was great. Any fixes in the works?

@jakedduck1, you're right. You shouldn't have to resign in every time. If you are on a trusted device (your own phone or computer), you can remain signed in. It is working for me. I'll send you a private message and we can get this straightened out for you.

well, in an attempt to replay to @jakedduck1 's fun message about coffee drinks, I received this error, I'm not sure if it's a real problem or not

Message: Too few arguments to function wp_async_hub_badge_activity_earned_async(), 2 passed in /var/www/n1.prod-carehubs.net/carehubs-platform/wp-content/plugins/8020-hub-core/components/interactions/actions/extensions/likes/notifications/thread_comment.php on line 24 and exactly 3 expected

so, I'm posting this reply message to the main discussion thread instead to see if it works. I hope we didn't blow up Connect changing my username....

That message was even more bazaar than I am. Give us time and between the two of us we may blow it up yet.

@jakedduck1 I read your post about having to sign in repeatedly with your smart phone? I haven't used my smart phone with Connect yet, I should give it a try I suppose. I had to re-sign in with my laptop when my handle was changed. I don't see all too well anymore and don't use Connect on that tiny phone screen so much, but I have noticed the phone does ask me to sign in, and my laptop does not.

Getting back to the healthy food topic, I wanted to ask you if you liked Panera bread ? Have you tried their drinks? They are deliciious , they have what they call 'tea' but they are fruit flavord drinks. Here is a listing of their tea-related drinks at Panera - they are:

Unsweetened
Iced Black Tea. 0 calories, 0g added sugar* ...
Plum Ginger Hibiscus Tea. 0 calories, 0g added sugar* ...
Prickly Pear Hibiscus Fresca. 100 calories, 0g added sugar* ...
Passion Papaya Green Tea. 130 calories, 30g added sugar* ...
Agave Lemonade. 140 calories, 34g added sugar* ...
Blood Orange Lemonade. 160 calories, 33g added sugar*

I really like just pain unsweetened black tea, and here I like the Plum Ginger Hibiscus. You had such a fun reaction to Chai Tea Lattes, I wanted to see what you had to say about a Plum Ginger Hibiscus 🙂

Nothing much to say except my doctor who is a sadist, she only allows me water and 2 cups of milk a day, non fat at that! I should report her for senior abuse but I wanted to lose weight. But you can have that tea stuff and I’ll eat their bread. I’ve tried that flavored tea in bottles from the store but I never made that mistake again.
