@jakedduck1

When I was getting kidney stones I gave up two of my favorite foods, sweet potatoes and spinach. Problem is they are both high in oxalates. I take a potassium citrate prescription and am suppose to eat an orange daily. I can only drink milk (2 cups a day) and water. No smoothies, coffee, sodas, tea, no juices of any kind. Mainly because of sugar. I agree that whole foods are better, more fiber, and filling. I donate Platelets every two weeks and calcium disrupts the absorption of iron.

Just wondering, @jakedduck1, can you drink non-dairy milk? (Like almond, oat milk, etc.)

@jakedduck1 My kidney damage is also from oxalates. I do not have stones (and am grateful for that!) but I do follow a low oxalate diet and that has helped me put off a kidney transplant for 4 years. I do still drink coffee, but heavily modified. I fill a 20 oz travel cup with 18-19 oz hot water and fill the rest of the cup with brewed coffee. That and water are my staple liquids. I have given up all leafy greens, most raw vegetables (cucumbers/tomatoes remain) all berries except strawberries, all potatoes of all kinds, all squash except summer (zucchini/spaghetti), all chocolate, most nuts (walnuts/Jiff Peanut Butter), dairy, almost all soy products, all root vegetables except carrots and an occasional turnip, most grains except rice and some oats, and so on, and so on. I am in heaven right now because it is peach, watermelon, strawberry and honeydew season. What I cannot eat I clean, cut and freeze for later. I take calcium citrate when eating to help absorb any oxalates I do consume. It's a life.
