Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

@jakedduck1 I am sure it is delicious, but at this point in my life, I am not about to start adding more fattening, unhealthy foods to my repertoire. I rarely make baked goods, except maybe banana bread for my husband, or muffins for him, or cookies to give away. I was very heavy at one point, managed to lose weight and now do not need more temptations.
I always did use the store bought filo dough. No way would I attempt to make it.

Sorry didn't mean to tempt you. Your very wise not to make the dough. I couldn't make it now. So I guess you don't want a recipe. Surly you have a treat now and then. I had a candy bar yesterday, oh the shame. I use to create all sorts of candy bars. That kind of cooking I enjoyed. Even the flops were good. Oh, the good old days.

@jakedduck I laughed when you said 'roll the dough on a dowel'. When I was first married I was going to be a good wife and make my husband his favorite dessert - cherry pie. I had a fool-proof piecrust recipe that said to roll the crust onto the rolling pin to transfer it to the pan. I rolled it on the rolling pin, lifted the pin, and the crust quickly and promptly unrolled itself right onto the kitchen floor! Never did learn to make pie crust. If anyone wants to treat my husband, they can make him a pie! I am good at a lot of things but not that one . . . and I don't care! haha
@jakedduck1 I agree, the good old days... I do cheat, but I am not about to make something that is really fattening and bad not healthy unless I am bringing it to a party or something where many people are eating it. I would never make it to have in the house -- I would eat it all!
I do cheat, but try to not. My weakness is chocolate so I keep dark chocolate in the house -- 70% to 85%. It's actually a healthy treat. I ate a couple of ginger snaps tonight with some tea too. I try hard to be good though.
I got cirrhosis from fatty liver. I don't want to have a fatty liver again so I really have to work to control that. I exercise a lot. I hope that offsets some of my cheating.

@contentandwell I enjoy 1 square of unsweetened 100% cacao each day. Some mornings I use 1/2 of a square in my oatmeal which I hope is helping to keep the cholesterol numbers in check.
@parus I add some bittersweet chocolate chips to my oatmeal along with a dollop of peanut butter. Not quite a chocolate peanut butter cup, but healthier I suppose!

Love the dark chocolate...one square at night with one glass of wine....satisfies my sweet tooth......tried it once in hot oatmeal...oh my gosh so good.
My favorite way to make Kale (besides kale chips). The big bag of curly kale....after rinsing and chucking the large stems, I sauté in toasted sesame oil (sometimes with chopped onions and garlic) for a few minutes then add golden raisins and peanuts for another minute. Could eat an entire plate and that satisfies my sweet tooth also.

@parus I was eating a piece every morning after breakfast but even though it is healthy it does add calories and on the days when I succeed in being good I don't eat any. I really need/want to lose at least 10 pounds that I have gained back.
@imallears A few people have mentioned chocolate in oatmeal, I think I will try that. I generally add either strawberries or blueberries, and nuts. If I have no berries I will add unsweetened applesauce. Cinnamon, always.
