Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Feb 22, 2019

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Yep, it turned out to be cereal. One of the few things I don’t ruin. If I didn’t have to watch my weight I’d bake. Baklava, oh yummy and so easy. Candy, cookies, pies, cakes bread and sticky buns. Dare I dream? I got stuff to make white chocolate macadamia cookies. Veggies get old after awhile. Hey @lioness, don’t you get tired of veggies.

All kidding aside I am eating a more balanced meals - still do my ice cream. Shakes. Bread. But I eat the other. Nuking little potatoes with frozen veggies for 3-5 mins . Then put cheese on top for 1 min or more. Awesome
Do smoothies for fruit intake yoghurt and ice cream with frozen fruit- bit of spinish and it tastes good .
Cereal alotbof times
Not the best - but it’s the only I can justify living .

Hi, that was an interesting article about prylotherapy. I have never heard of it but then I don’t have any joint pain. I would certainly consider it if all else failed. Looks like there are minimal , temporary side effects. It seems that more insurance companies are covering it so hopefully it will be approved as an alternative to dealing with pain. Was wondering if anyone who has some sort of joint pain has heard of it. I’m going to mention it to a few people in my gym class who are suffering from pain.

Thanks for the education

Regards from Mary

@jakedduck1 Baklava is easy? With filo dough? I have used filo dough for appetizers. The last time I did that I was dealing with a migraine at the same time. Even though the dough was not the cause of the headache, I think having the headache caused me to never work with filo again.

Hi JK,
Yeah it's easy, at least it use to be. Making the dough is a pain though. Roll & roll & roll I'd never try it with a headache though. Once I got so impatient I wadded up the dough and threw against a window. I enjoyed that. No Baklava that day. You have to be able to see through the dough and that's thin and hard to work with. Use the store bought stuff. Super simple then. I think pistachios with some walnuts are best. I didn't care much for the hazelnuts. Roll the dough on a dowel if it's acting up. Just layer some then add the nuts layer some more and use plenty of butter on each layer. I think it's better if you mix some of the syrup with the nuts. Cook and pour syrup over it and chill. See, easy peasy. Much easier than fixing dinner. Maybe because it's so much better.

There are oft foods that take a lot of time and work. Due to chronic pain I do try to eat healthy and use my time time wisely when preparing healthy food. such as chopping vegetables, sprouting legumes and baking healthy food rather than frying. I avoid sugar and gluten as well as artificial sweeteners. If I bake anything sweet such as for Holidays I enjoy do so and giving it to others. The fun for me is in the preparing and sharing when it comes the calorie filled treats.
