Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Feb 22, 2019

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Guess I’ll invest in an indoor grill like you and @imallears suggested. Do you think they are more beneficial than the oven broiler?

Glad I never got an air fryer. I don’t use the broiler much except for browning or crisping up a dish. Don’t like to do a steak that way. I think an indoor griddle /grill would be ideal for you. I’ve done a steak on the indoor grill but I sear it couple minutes both sides at high heat and then cover with a lid and lower temp so it cooks through .. to medium..or I have finished it in an oven. Don’t have steak all that much and opt for a petite fillet when I do...even well done, a petite fillet is so tender...worth the money.
The indoor grills are inexpensive...I really like my DeLonghi....there’s a lot to choose from on Amazon. They do have to be preheated for best results. The DeLonghi is a good size for one person or 2....Grill a hamburger and top with cheese which will melt if you but a pot cover over it and then it’s kind of like an oven.
Grilling and broiling are not similar In Broiling, the meat (for example) is not touching the heat and is a drier process unless you surround it with alum foil. You can get the juices on the grill....just tastes better when it’s sitting and cooking in its own juice and you can scrape up the bits.

Okay...vino time
Regards and happy cooking

Well, I put my steak EXACTLY as said in the recipe book that came with it. Airfry position 2 for 18 mim at 400 degrees for medium, turn half way through. I followed directions to the tee. It’s a bloody mess.
Anyone notice air fryers need to cook longer.

@jakedduck1 Or, perhaps, not eat steak? Ducking and running,

JK- Morning. That's searing a roast off and we do that too. Also depends on your oven. Mine runs hot. Sounds yummy

@merpreb my mother always seared too, but this as at 500 for the whole time.

I presume you realize it was a beef tenderloin, not pork. It was an expensive treat, but it was Christmas!

I have a laundry question, I washed a shirt with some food stains that didn’t come out and another large stain that I have no idea what it is. Anyway they didn’t come out. So, since I washed and dried it did that set the stain?

Good call Linda. I had one today. Second one I had in the last 14-18 months. I had a bunch of salad and veggies to fill up on. Only two little pieces of pizza but I savored each piece.

You’re so funny. Laundry stain. Try OxyClean in a spray bottle..Before next wash spray on stain and rub together and throw in wash. You may have to do a few times depending on what the stain is. I never met a stain I could not obliterate and don’t believe a stain can be set. It’s just harder to get out .
Alternative to meat...ground chicken burgers (not the ground breast as it’s too dry), chicken tenders or cutlets, veggie burgers (frozen but tasty and take 5 minutes), pasta with carmelized veggies, turkey chili, brown rice and beans, fish is fast. You can put anything on a salad. Soup and grilled cheese sandwich....notice the word grilled.😏
The list is endless....goggle some recipes for healthy fun.

Have a great day with your new hobby
