Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

@karen00- I'm glad that you are home. I'm sorry that you are feeling so down. After a "stay" in a hospital there are many reasons that depression sets in. First off you are no longer a patient so attention is not being paid to you like you were use to. It takes a while to get use to that even with help. I don't think that the hospital would let you go if they weren't sure that you could take care of yourself.
I've never met a person who wasn't tired after being discharged from the hospital. It's a change or air and maybe diet or medicines. HAve any of your meds been changed upon discharge?
@johnbishop & @imallears - Wow! Thanks for the great tips. I have a "go-to" quinoa salad recipe that I enjoy but I was getting a little tired of it. I can't wait to try the one John posted and the one Mary referenced - the quinoa & lentil salad. Yumm!
@karen00 - I'm sorry you are not feeling motivated. When I got out of the hospital recently, I found that no matter how much I didn't feel like cooking anything OR eating, if I would just drink a cup of boullion it would give me a boost. It takes no time at all to heat the water in the microwave and there you have it. I also did some of the Ramen noodle soups - again, easy and quick. I hope you feel better.
@karen00, I just got home from major surgery and a nine day stay in the hospital, and I totally understand how you feel. I am tired of the pain, tired of struggling to even get out of bed. I also have fibro, and I just want to sleep to escape. The doctor cut off my pain meds five days after surgery, and I feel sure my uncontrolled pain is part of the problem. Not able to take care of myself. Too exhausted to feed myself. My advice is just hang on and let time go by while your body heals. Sleep is healing. Rest.
@jakedduck1 Did instructions come with your airfryer? When I roast vegies Itas 400 for 20 minutes I never used an airfryer so dont k now
@karen00 sorry your in so much pain call your Dr tell him to have social worker call from hospital you should let them help you till you can manage on your own
@karen00 You are sounding discouraged at this time. I am not negating how you are feeling. Just wondering if you are asking too much of yourself too quickly. You were surrounded by staff and patients while in the hospital. Could it be that you are missing having others around and your mind/body is trying to adapt. Do try to at least stay hydrated. Have you asked for some help? I know you mentioned a brother. Got to eat a little something and stay hydrated. Cheering for you!!
@jakedduck1 I use to make it along time ago I think it is egg whites whipprd up then sugar added drop on baking sheet put in oven till its light brown on top this sets it also @merpreb does this sound right,?
@hopeful33250 I am thinking I need to roast some veggies. Have not done so for a long time. CT did show more clearly very arthritic neck. Referred back to pain specialist, also to a neurologist and also to primary as also showed hardening of carotid arteries in my neck. Here I go again.
Linda- I've never heard of them until Jake mentioned them.
@merpreb
