Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

@hopeful33250 They really do. I have one of her cookbooks and I was tempted to get one of these for myself, but I just cannot justify another cookbook at my age. I mean really, how many cookbooks does one person need?

Hi,
I have seen the Cooking for Dummies cookbook and don’t think it’s very basic.. no pictures. I would look at cookbooks in a book store rather than buy online. Some of these cookbooks are not really for beginners or don’t have pictures or have ridiculous recipes.
I think the cooks here on this forum could write better, simple step by step recipes. I never had a cookbook when I was first married and learned by trial and error. Back then, before the internet, I didn’t know what a clove of garlic was and used the whole bulb. Needless to say that dinner went in the trash. Now you just can goggle everything, every step of the
way.
I think one of the most important first things for a beginner to know is having the right pots, pans ,utensils like a good peeler and basic seasonings . Next step is to know the best cuts of meat, fowl and fish. Go on the internet and go from there. It’s a learning process if you are interested in learning. But that interest has to be there.

@jakedduck1 Leonard, I cook a lot, but even I like precise measurements to start out with. After cooking something once I may well change them, but to start out? No, I want directions.

@jakedduck1 I do with a new recipie but aftet doing it alot I can measure in my hand ot by site

You said a mouthful Mary, “But that interest has to be there.” A lot of truth there. Although I use to actually enjoy cooking, more baking and candy making than main dishes. But I could slap together a pretty decent lasagna back when my cheese, salt and fat weren’t so limited. I have a question, is there anyway to cook hamburger for lasagna or stuffed bell peppers without frying it? My doctor insists I can’t have anything fried which is the main reason I’m looking forward to the air fryer. My friend came today and fixed me lunch and dinner and I froze some. Question 2, if I cook a steak (All 4 ounces) when do I add the potato and veggies?
Thanks in advance,
Jake
Question time, I was just curious about making divinity. Not much humidity here in California, can you make it back east and Midwest?

@contentandwell- JK- I hear you on this. I inherited all of my mom's cooking books too- all of Julia Child too. My son is a great cook so he'll get them some day. I have shelves of cook books. He does everything on computer--haha
@jakedduck1- Is divinity a recipe?
@merpreb Good morning girl. I enjoy playing with and being creative with food. I do know having to adhere to a soft diet without dairy, gluten or sugar is a challenge. Can get mundane at times. Thing is I have adapted without grumbling as it is part of what I do to have less inflammation and pain. It does make a difference. Aluminum foil has made things much easier too!!
