Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Hint for today. Get an InstaPot, or the equivalent. We are finally starting to use mine, and finding out how simple and quick meals can be! Did a chicken with rice recipe tonight. An internet search yields a lot of different ideas for meals of all sorts.

Hi @gingerw - Thanks for the instant pot tip. I've been on the fence but I may get one. Here is a book one of my friends recently got and loved: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DQRXYPZ/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1

@debbraw Looks like an interesting book! My husband got me an InstaPot for My birthday last year, but we were hesitant to try start working with it. Now that we broke the ice it will get a lot of use!

Does anyone have an air fryer. Not sure of it’s proper name but it fries, bakes, convection, dehydrates, roasts, broiled and a number of other ways of cooking. If you have one are they easy to use? Do you like it?
Thanks,
Jake

I do! I use it for air frying veggies, tater tots, french fries (not hash browns, takes out moisture). I've used it for some meats also. For me it's worth the money since I've been dieting. My son hasn't been able to tell the difference on french fries or the tater tots and he is a picky eater.

Hello @margieinia

Thanks for answering this question. I'm interested as well.

Could you explain some of the advantages of an air fryer? Does it cook quicker or just with less fat? It is difficult to clean after using it?

You said you've used it for "some meats." Is there a problem using it for most meats? Does meat come out tender?

Air frying uses little to no oil. I have a EVO spray bottle that I spray a couple of swigs before I cook. I have cooked frozen meatballs, package chicken tenders, nuggets, etc. I have not cooked a roast or any of that yet, because I'm used to using my slow cooker to make the meat tender. If you like things that are usually fried, it's great. I have also used with all my veggies, whether frozen or fresh and it works wonderfully. It does not cook faster but with less fat. Very easy to clean up (you have the unit, plus the pan to put your food into), I wash the pan by hand because it's easier and I can put the machine back in the cabinet. I hope this helps.
